Only a couple hours a weekend available, this military stuff is getting in the way of me building my truck! LOL

Three weeks straight, including weekends, of running a squadron and having base-wide exercises run concurrently.  I have 75 days of leave on the books, I am about ready to take a good vacation!

About a month left of the exercises, then I should have some good down time to get it finished up, but here's a few pics of what I snuck in this weekend

At least it is IN the truck, and not sitting next to it!

Looking good... I'm pretty envious of the amount of space you have to work with minus the fenders and such.

75 days leave? Back when I was in they would not let us accumulate more than 60 at the end of the fiscal year. As it got closer to the deadline everyone was taking 3 and 4 day weekends. I guess "use it or lose it" no longer applies? When I got out back in "92" I sold 60 days back.. nice lil parting gift.  ;D

Don't worry, with a 489 FE in a Mustang, I get to play the "I can't believe it fits in there" game LOL

This is the last year of 75 days, with the long deployments an multiple dream destinations to deploy to :) they let us save a little more.

Its going back down to 60 on 1 Oct 13.

Unfortunately, with rank comes responsibility, I NEVER carried leave when I was young, now I have to take it on Sat and Sun to bleed it off.

I retired in 99 and now work on the fed (non-military) side.  Use or loose is about the same but I never seem to let it get that high!  LOL!

Having to take leave on Sat and Sun just to bleed it off is just wrong!! ;D

Love that truck too!  It should be a very nice runner... i had a '67 F100 LWB I bought in '72, Two-tone Springtime yellow and Wimbledon white.  It had a 352 2V with an oil bath air cleaner LOL!  Being a California truck it had a thermactor emission system (air pump). Used to burn a valve every 50k miles or so... I still put 150k miles on it and in '75 sold it back to the buddy I bought it from, for the same amount I paid him in '72!  I used that $$ for a down payment on our first home... So I second the statement - built Ford Tough!

Getting there, put a nice shiny bed on it today!

As soon as we shoot the inner fenders and radiator support I can fire up the new 445!

Looks great Ross! Any chance we could see how you got the exhaust past the transfer case and trans? I ended up with a mess I don't like with my 74 F100 4X4, but I need some ideas before I get started trying to fix it right.

I'll see if I can come up with something, its hard to take a pic that makes sense

Basically I used two 90 degree mandrel bends from the drivers side header, one turns the pipe to the pass side immediately and the other brings it back to follow the passenger frame rail.

The pass side uses a 45 degree out of the collector making it go up toward the cab floor, above the first pipe, and then another 45 to run both pipes back, over under style.

I then split the pipes after the cab to go back to normal locations.

Looking really good, and I'm not even a truck fan!  This one seems to have just the right attitude.  Baby FE build? Uh huh. Sure... lol

The 445 is running

Pretty uneventful, filled the carb, filled it with water, turn the key and it lit off.  No leaks, no issues, no nothing, I let it run while I put tools away

I brought it to 2000 rpm for 30 minutes, the cam was already run in, but I figured why not?  Better safe than sorry.

I'll make a little movie tomorrow, it doesn't sound all that different than the 397 at idle, but it sure winds up with a quick bark compared to the 8:1 motor.

I think it's going to be a real good one
