Is it possible to source 31 or 35 spline axles that will fit with small carrier and axle bearings?

FE Technical Forum / Re: Fidanza flywheel - ring gear
« on: June 22, 2025, 12:10:37 PM »
Two thoughts on this, first, the way I see it if standard replacement ring gears are available it would make no sense to tool up to produce your own. These flywheels are defiantly a low volume item. The second, I know this will sound a bit Mickey Mouse but if you ever looked at a ring gear that was damaged by a bad starter, generally the damage is limited to about four spots on the ring gear. This leaves quite a lot of useful areas still existing. You could heat the ring gear until it falls off or can be tapped of, relocate the bad ares and reinstall. Iffy I know.

Aside from altering DCR would a change from straight up to four degrees advanced cam timing have a noticeable effect on torque production in the 2,500 to 4,000 RPM range?

I have taken much info from your book and thank you. Now the question is, I have noticed that the cam timing on the dyno mules was set at 4 degrees advanced. For what particular reason was this done?

It takes a little over 1 gallon of fuel per 1/4 mile pass. That includes idle time in staging, the burnout, making the pass, shut down and returning to the pits. I would guess mileage to be about 1 mile per gallon. Jim
Have you experienced noticeable oil dilution from the alcohol?

McMaster-Carr has some nice fanged hex bolts that are not serrated (the serrated bolts will eat your aluminum pan in short order). Also if you have a windage tray sandwiched in there (which usually require two gaskets), deforming the pan at the bolts becomes more of a problem. You might be able to employ some pressure spreaders as seen with valve cover bolts.

Couple of questions, what would you estimate is the CFM potential and how many similar pieces are used in the Autolite 2100 and 4100? Also if these inlines were deemed a performance equal to Webbers would it be feasible to tool up for production?

If we are speaking about the lower hose, I had a similar situation with an aluminum pump. I found that a coat of silicone grease inside the hose will allow it to slip over the larger dia. pump.

FE Technical Forum / Re: question on intake fit
« on: February 23, 2025, 08:53:02 AM »
I am here to testify that Edl does make machining mistakes occasionally. While port matching a Street Master intake it was discovered that the distributor hole was approx. .030 off to one side. This was corrected and worked fine.

You didn't mention the thickness of the intake gaskets but I will suggest thicker gaskets which are available. This will bring the intake up in relation to the heads. As for the cork end gaskets, I would suggest using a bead of sealer if you have time to let it cure.

I have been stocking up on VR1 at Walmart at a cost of around $26.00 per 5 quarts. a good deal. Don't know how long this supply will last, thus stocking up.
