FE Technical Forum / Lead substiute
« on: June 26, 2023, 06:21:45 PM »
I'm wondering if anyone who has been using MOTOR MEDIC lead substitute and on disassembly noticed a black buildup on the back of the intake valve. At 1,000 miles an unrelated condition required heads off and that is when I noticed this. Seems sort of sticky and resists removal with a wire wheel way more than a carbon or oil buildup would. I may have overdosed because I did not actually measure fluid ounces but just took a guess (figured not too important). I'm using the stuff because my exhaust seats are factory cast iron. Also, do I really need this additive?

FE Technical Forum / FE oiling
« on: September 12, 2021, 09:07:32 AM »
Question; Is it true that the center oiler plumbing scheme is not sufficient (or marginally adequate) to provide full oil supply at higher RPM? Or is the relatively large diameter and narrow dimensions of the FE rod bearing (surface speed) more responsible for the perceived oiling inadequacy of the system?

FE Technical Forum / Shrinking push rods
« on: June 25, 2021, 09:31:13 AM »
Has anyone out there been tempted to shorten Smith Bros push rods. I believe the ends are pressed in. Thought I might hold them in a lathe collet and somehow pull the cups off, or is this just nuts?

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Driveshaft recomendations
« on: April 11, 2021, 07:45:50 AM »
How much driveshaft (dia. & material) do I need. '60 Starliner, 427 around 450 HP, C6 Gearvenders OD so a shorter shaft if it matters. 411 gear, street use and as much rubber as will fit.

FE Technical Forum / Speed Master S.S. rockers
« on: March 04, 2021, 06:35:14 PM »
OK, I probably made a mistake when I bought the Speed Master cast stainless rocker assys. couple years ago. Now have them installed in the 427. I have corrected machining errors and other quality problems that could be corrected by machining. I have good geometry, rocker spacing and so-forth. Using comp. 282S cam, around 125 seat pressure with comp. recommended springs. Street use only but would like to "stand on the gas" once in a while! So the question is; just how bad are these damn things and what chance do I stand for a good outcome?

Gearvenders OD unit smack in the way of E-brake cables. Vehicle is '60 Starliner,
C6 trans. Has anyone engineered their way around this? I have no desire to reinvent the wheel so thought I should ask first.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Holley EFI

Question is, woild it be advantages to place the pressure regulator as close to the injector unit as is practical? My thinking is, placing the regulator toward the back (near the tank) would not compensate for a pressure drop at the injector unit. To be clear, the regulator is down stream (return side) from the injector body.
