cleandan, have you tried running through the gears without the kickdown linkage installed? Might help sort out the problem a little bit through elimination.

Thanks guys, very helpful info here. I will be looking into the oil control issue. I will say that the exhaust seat angles are still well defined and do not seem to be deteriorating. I am using press on valve seals. The heads are old C4 Big H low riser heads.

I'm wondering if anyone who has been using MOTOR MEDIC lead substitute and on disassembly noticed a black buildup on the back of the intake valve. At 1,000 miles an unrelated condition required heads off and that is when I noticed this. Seems sort of sticky and resists removal with a wire wheel way more than a carbon or oil buildup would. I may have overdosed because I did not actually measure fluid ounces but just took a guess (figured not too important). I'm using the stuff because my exhaust seats are factory cast iron. Also, do I really need this additive?

You can test secondary diaphram function; with the engine not running, open the primary butterflys and with an air gun blow air past the brass vacuum sensing tube in the RH venturi creating a low pressure area thus mimicking full throttle operation and the rear butterflys will pull open if everything is in order.

Does anyone out there know of a coolant recovery cap to fit a '60-'64 FE surge tank? A P/N or application.

My hat is off to you, great write up and photos. I installed a Gearvendor in my Starliner, more work than I had expected, and I have a hoist! Attaching a photo showing how I rerouted my emergency brake cables around the overdrive.

Thanks for responding Doug, '60 is gold anodize aluminum, '61 is chrome, probably pot metal. I have found one on ebay with broken mounting studs for a reasonable cost. Broken studs no problem as I'm going to use two sided tape to attach. Fenders were never drilled, came off a station wagon parts car. Never liked the look of gold anodize aluminum so I will have them gold plated as I did the trunk script, looks like jewellery!

Could have been miss boxed. I worked at a parts store years ago and when the store would change brands a crew would come in and re box the parts, of course they didn't always get it right.

Yes standard dist. I'll need to take some advance out as 12 initial nets 38 at this time. Will I have cooler running with some vacuum advance added? None vacuum at this time.

The question is, with zero ethanol 91 oct. fuel, what range of total spark advance is advisable? I will provide background. 427 low riser engine & heads. Oversize valves, 10.7 comp. ratio, flat top pistons, minimal squish. Comp. #282S. 336 @ .050. Streetmaster intake, Holley EFI. 3900 lb. car, Wide ratio C6, 4.11 with Gearvenders OD. Street use occasional foot on the floor.

They are both the same.

It is probably not a good idea to change what the distributor came with. If you use a stronger pin, instead of breaking the pin you may break the gear or cause further damage such as the cam gear.

I should have said, "I believe Ford used coil pins".

Would someone elaborate on the difference between a roll pin and a spring pin? I believe ford used roll pins.
