If you look at the video carefully (when he flips the engine over on the stand), you'll notice that it's a late block with ribs - and NO CROSSBOLTS.

I wonder what that engine really is?   ???
A careful study of failure will yield the ingredients for success.

He clearly said it was a 427.  I looked at another of his videos since I couldn't make that out absolutely and yep, no crossbolts.  Maybe he meant 428, since it looks like 428 cast pistons if you look at the block without heads.  Also, why can't you use the MR dual quad with the Trick Flow heads?

No, he said that just a day ago in his January upload Comments section, after posters 413x398 and 427Med called him out for BSing about the block. He said it has a steel crank. If so (and who really knows), then what he has is a 406 or a 428 if it's an aftermarket crank, which I doubt. In his new video he continues to call it a 427. He might very well believe it due to somebody else's lies, but it's obvious he really doesn't know the FE like he thinks he does.

My .02.

An .080 over 390 can make a "428" with a 428 crank.  My guess is since he is using a steel "427" crank(um, just a 390) he is now calling it a 427?

It just doesn't work that way.

I don't think he has the slightest clue as to what's sitting between the shock towers.  I think he believes it to be a 427 based upon the sticker on the valve cover.  He says it's a service replacement 427 center oiler block as a 390 block bored .080" over.  Say what?  Well, we know it's not any such thing.  It doesn't appear he's the one actually working on it and I doubt he could tell you anything at all about the engine.

EDIT:  If you go to the engine video, when he has the block rolled over, you get a view of the crank.  I don't know what crank is in it but it is NOT a steel crank.  You can easily see the thin mold lines.  This guy is so full of shit.

Let's tie him to his bumper and drag him. If it's good enough for the Pharoahs, it's good enough for us.

Shame, it's a cool ride, either a 390 or a 428 with a hyd roller and a 4 speed, and certainly clean.  Why BS?

I’ve heard of a local car that the owner claims to be 427 powered. Apparently he went to the extent of gluing bolt heads on the block to represent cross bolts, and gluing in fake screw in core plugs.

Some folks don't understand simple math of the overbore and cubic inches.  There is a 312 Y Block for sale locally for $6000.00 and it has a .060" overbore.  He claims it is a 342 cubic inch engine.  Supposed to be a Thunderbird engine, but has wrong thermostat housing, wrong water pump pulley, wrong exhaust manifolds, wrong carburetor, etc.  Yes, all '57 Y's were Thunderbird specials on valve covers, but not actually Thunderbird specific engines.   The simple math is 3.860 x 3.860 x 3.44 x 6.2832 = 322.043 cubic inches.  He will not accept the facts, and has had the engine for sale for at least three years on Craig's list.   This guy is hyping his car for a future sale to some unsuspecting person with deep pockets and a great profit.  Joe-JDC

That guy is either horribly misinformed or trying to pass off something else as a 427.  When folks say things like "where are the cross bolts?" he just spouts off about it being a service block.  When some one with a little FE knowledge calls him out he says .... nothing.

One thing I learned in my teens when I had a 66 ranchero 4 speed 289 4 bbl was, If you're gonna do a burnout,,,,, take the slack out of the powertrain. I noticed he backed up and didn't take out the slack. good way to bust a ujoint or worse. I learned real fast 'cause my dad didn't pay for it I DID!

Maybe it's the eBay guy with the "underbored" high nickel 427's.

The car is plenty cool without stretching the truth.  I think a drunk Amish kid might drive better than he does, but you just can't have everything.  I don't find shame in just calling it a nice 390. It sounds ok.
