it won't break , not sure why they did that back in the day unless they were worried about young drivers and 428's ? It was short lived but enough made to drive the resto guys nuts looking for them

Kind of the same question. Why do PU 4X4 C6's have a short cast iron tailshaft instead of aluminum? I'm referring to the one with the flange.
Seems like aluminum would have been less costly.

I looked for a cast iron CJ/PI tail housing when we built the C6 in the F-100. Like Eric said, found out they are impossible to find. We had a short cast iron pickup tailhousing but using it meant we would have to build a driveline with a slip in it. From experience I know driveline slips are a weak point. So we used a long aluminum tailhousing and bought a chromoly slip yoke. Despite my best efforts to break it, or anything else for that matter, it seems to be pretty tough.

The aluminum tailshaft housing will endure lots of drag race use BUT as Scott mentioned , "wheel hop" WILL break it. Drag cars don't usually have wheel hop . street cars do.
