Hello all, just joined and thought I'd say hello. I like the looks of it Jay, but I'm not sure about all these smilies watching me type. Hope to offer some helpful suggestions or ask some interesting questions from time to time. Later, Travis.

Great idea Lance, I just stickied the thread.  Here's my story:

- Started out with performance cars in 1976 with a 67 Mustang fastback with a 289 and C-4.  Sold it to buy my '68 Shelby, that had been fitted with a 428 Cobra Jet from a '69 Torino Cobra.  Been an FE guy ever since.

- Went back to school in '88 and got a degree in electrical engineering in '91.  Went through a few notable cars in the meantime, including a '66 Pro-Street Cyclone and a 71 SCJ Ranchero, but they were never as cool as the Shelby (which I still have, although it is currently apart).

- After marriage and kids in the mid to late 1990s, I got back into the cars pretty heavily in 2003 when I bought my '69 Mach 1.  Had three different engines in that car in two years, experimenting.  Took it to the inaugural Drag Week in 2005, and went back with it in supercharged form in 2007.

- Bought my dyno in the summer of 2005, and had it set up and running by March 2006.  Way, way more fun than any other car toy I've ever had  ;D  Judging by the crowds at some of the dyno sessions, everybody else thinks so too.

- Picked up the Galaxie in 2007 after I'd spent a year or so screwing around with the SOHC.  I wanted a car I could just drop one of those engines into, and the Gal worked out pretty well for that.  Took it to Drag Week in 2008 and 2009.

- Currently working on a 69 Shelby clone that will get the SOHC, along with a lot of other race oriented parts; see the Road to Drag Week 2011 blog.

I enjoyed auto shop classes in highschool back around 1970, started working on cars out of necessity because anything I could afford was broken.   On the advice of my friend's Dad, I purchased a 2.8 V/6 engine, put that into a 71 pinto around 1977.  It was not fast and before long I had a 302 and eventually a 351.  I was going through college (1981 BSEE) at this time, and the car was VERY low budget, but I had a lot of fun.  I got married in 85 (also had a Mustang II with a 351 by then)  got rid of the cars; FOUR KIDS by 1993.  Built a house with a larger garage (and more bedrooms) 15 years ago.

As a family project we bought a 69 Mach One in 2002.  I wanted a Ford to use up some of my old 351 parts, ha ha; not realizing a 428 would have so much intrigue.

Despite being a low priority I got the Mach pieced together a few years ago and enjoyed driving it for a summer as a multicolored beater.  I have since taken the front sheet metal and doors off for minor rust repair, then started a basement remodel (yikes) and hope to be back working on the Mustang soon.

Best part of this has been the friends we have met, especially some of the BC supershifters (Dale P, Rory, Tom P etc) that have been very welcoming and generous with their time.  The car has been a low priority as I'm self employed, kids have had their own projects and college but it has definitely been a part of our identity.

My name is Jim Whitton and I live in Western Massachusetts. I'm also on the Fordfe forum as Cyclonic66. I grew up as a gearhead loving fords with a father who was into Pontiacs. Drove a '67 Galaxie 2 door from my Sr. year in H.S. through my entire undergraduate years obtaining my B.S. in Ceramic Engineering. Now I can engineer the hell out of a coffee cup or a toilet bowl. Actually, I play with jet engine coatings, but that's a different topic..That Galaxie treated me very well but after school I had to let it go and bought what I thought would be the most practical vehicle for a young kid that didn't know where he was going to live or for how long: a Ford Ranger.

After a few years had passed and my wife and I got comfortable, I started looking for a toy. I was in search of a '64 Galaxie big block car, preferably an XL. I found a guy who owned one since '64 but he had it promised to his son. He also had this extreme low mileage 66 Cyclone that he was considering putting up for sale. Loving fords and always liking something different, I had to go see it. Once I saw the original condition of the car, I had to own it. I've been playing with it for several years, always with the intention of being able to put it back to original. It now has a strong 428, discs up front, a custom ram air setup, and a complete replacement of everything behind the Toploader: driveshaft, 9" braced housing, nodular case with a Locker, monoleafs and CalTracs. All original parts, including the 390 are tucked away in my garage. Before my next toy, I'll put it back to original and probably sell it.

I will own a '64 Galaxie one of these days. No room at the moment, even had to sell my '07 Mustang GT when I inherited a '60 Pontiac from my dad. Priorities.

Nice site Jay. Looks like you intend to do it right and be involved.

Hey guys, Im Reuben Anderson, Im in Albuquerque New Mexico. My first car was a 1956 Buick special that I got in highschool in 2000. Went to college in 2003 and got a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 08. The Buick sparked my intrest in old cars. I fell in love with an old and really beat up 64 Galaxie that seemed to be an old dirt track car that was left in a field by my grandmas house in a tiny Nebraska town (pop 32) Since then I purchased 2 64 Fast back XL's one from Eureka California (epay) and drove it back. Turned out that it was a rust bucket. Found another in Sacramento. Flew out! and drove that one home too! This is the car you see in the pic. I swapped the interiors and then sold the other car. I have added Crites fiberglass front end and built a mild 390 for it along with converting it to a 4spd. This car was my daily driver until 2010 when my wife and I started a family. Now it is my fun car, I just wish it was lighter. I have built 2 390's and a 347sb ford that made 500-whp with a little help from a bottle. I enjoy the process of designing and building an engine. Working on getting the capital to put together a couple. Eventually I would like to run 11's in the ol' gal with a 6-71 or 8-71. However that is at our local track that is at 5300ft elevation.

Currently restoring the fuel system, new tank and 3/8 line, and working to pay the bills  :D

Hello fellow FE enthusiasts!

My name is Brent Rawls from the DFW area.  I have a 1969 F100 that recently received a freshly built 390 and C6.  I'm interested in learning as much as possible about this platform as I continue to "make it my own" so to speak.

I look forward to conversing with other like-minded enthusiasts to learn and share.

I guess since I've been pinned up there, I should give my intro. My name is Travis McCool and I live near Shelby Iowa. Graduated high school in Montana some 18 years ago then went to tech school in Phoenix. I came back to Iowa (was born here), and got a job at Mack in Omaha. A wife and a couple kids later, we bought an acreage a year ago.  Now I've got a place to work on some toys, just don't have the time. The wife, kids, dog and to do list keeps me busy, but I keep thinking and acquiring parts for the projects.
On to the projects 35 chivy pickup-I've owned it for over 20 years, someday it'll get a boss 429 and the gasser look. 50 chivy pickup- someday it'll be a dually with diesel power. 75 Lincoln Continental- grampa bought it new, still nice with 63000 miles. 90 f250- extended cab, 4x4, diesel. 02 f150 supercrew-the wife's truck. 03 Crown Vic- the only new car I've ever bought, 185000 miles with NO problems. Two 63 Ford country sedan wagons- it took two to make one "good" one, looonnggg ways to go. Mid 60's Ford 4400 tractor- pushes snow pretty good. Mid 60's Cub Cadet 72- it's scattered across the shop and the grass is getting tall around here. Almost forgot the 71 f250 camper special- bought it for the good running 390, but can't make myself cut the rust bucket up.  ;D Later, Travis

My name is Andy, I reside in Adelaide, Australia. I have been a member of FordFE.com since it spawned from the 'old' forum due to a certain and infamous SS. I only have 1 FE powered car (no prizes for guessing what) but have developed a passion for these power plants since buying it 16 years ago. As FE's are rare (ish) on the ground over here and no Australian built Fords came with them information and parts are not easy to come by. I will be embaking on a project over the next few years to make the Fairlane more streetable, ie. take it from the pro-street theme to more of a pro-touring car, yes I must be getting old, but I just want to be able to drive it more and further. I also own a 67 Fairlane convertible with a 289.

I look forward to participating in this forum when I have questions or something of value to add.

Just a suggestion for the forum. How about a members projects section?

I am the one on the right that looks like he has something up his buttock. The two cars on the right are mine.

Thanks Jay. My book is on it's way and I'm anxious to see it.

I may be the only one here who actually doesn't own an FE but it's always been a favorite of mine. Over the years I've wanted to put one in my 58 F-100 but, despite the fact I've owned 2 engine/trans (390/C-6 & 390/FMX) combinations, the planets have never been in alignment for that project. Regardless, I have a fair amount of experience with them as a Ford tech in the mid 70's and in my repair shop in the late 70's early 80's when I was considered a bit of a Ford specialist. Some of you may know me from my days in the New York metro area as Lou's Garage, North Rockland Amoco, or Manglass Automotive. Or perhaps from the long lost Dover Drag Strip or Englishtown (SS/I, F/S, H/S). Or my sport car days in the early 80's. Regrettably none of it was with Fords. I still have a vision to build an FE for myself (I've built 3 or 4 for customers, including a 427) but that remains to be seen. Barry's jailbreak kits are awesome, a great value for the money that lets you build the proverbial silk purse out of the sow's ear.

Well where does one start?  My name is Rodney and I am from Ohio.  I first was introduced to the FE with my first couple of pickups, both having 390's.  I didnt realize how much I liked those 390's until my next two trucks one with 351M and other with 302.  That was the start of my love for FE's, the 428scj took it to the next level for me, I havent looked back since.  My goal is to put an FE in most everything I can, do have a couple of cars that dont have one, the '40 Ford Deluxe tudor w/flathead (all original), '62 Falcon that I am putting a turbocoupe 2.3/ T5 (cause its different) and a '67 Country Sedan S/W w/289 for now but I keep thinking a good torque monster 390 would make a neat tow rig/swapmeet ride.  Otherwise everything else I own if propelled by the FE family.
I have alot to learn about them yet, especially on the performance end of things, need to keep giving my Chebby friends a run for there money with this old school ford engine.  So Im on that life long task of learning everything I can about the FE, as well as hoarding as many as I can, too stuff in everything that can be made to fit in.
Another real good reason for someone to become addicted to the FE is the quality of the people you meet with the same interest.  I have had my share of hobbies and interest over the years and FE guys are the greatest out there, willing to help each other, share knowledge (example this forum and its founder).  Hope to meet many more of you in the future, as great as these forums are, nothing beats meeting people face to face and having some good ole fashioned benchracing and brain picking.

Barry Byer, long time FE and FE forum guy. I've been working on my '53 F-100 for better than a decade now. Started off with no kids, now have two etc. etc. Presently 390 with "cough" C-6 but this is so it can be sold and I can get something that both kids can sit in.
Career-wise I am an aircraft maintenance engineer (Think A&P with Inspection Authority) working for the Canadian version of JetBlue, WestJet. 46 years old and still playing with toys!!

I'm Ken Sheffer

Since the family car was a '53 Merc when I learned to drive, you can easily guess that I've been a Ford fan for a long time. I managed to treat that car to a complete header exhaust, Mallory diz, etc, 3 Strombergs on an Offie manifold and get my first ticket, for drag-racing, while on Woodward at about Square Lake Rd going south. And my Mother drove it to work as a schoolteacher every day.

Next car was a '34 five window, channeled eleven inches and sectioned, running, when I got it, a 59A configuration that was too rough for street driving. I sold that powerplant and put in the engine from the '53 Merc.

Next I got a '54 Customline, and installed first a 292, and then a 312. I built headers, converted it to a stick-shift, put on dual quads and finally a Paxton blower.

KS

In November of '63 I went to work at T&C Livonia and in February of '64 I bought a new 'R' Custom Ford. The only option was an AM radio. Every other checkmark had to do with going fast. It had the 'T' ignition and a 4.11 gear to go with the mandatory four-speed (a T-10---changed to a pre-production top-loader that took a bunch of talking at work to acquire.) In addition it had the big brakes and HD suspension and 15" tires. Daily driving and getting married took first place and meant that the best the car ran that season was 13.27 at 107.

I sold the '64 to Brother Lon and bought a new '65 1/2 Mustang GT fastback that I quickly converted to a GT-350 clone complete with a Paxton blower and a deck exchange for the back seat. Shortly thereafter I finally got an AB in Chemistry and became a metallurgical process engineer in QC at Livonia Trans.

Before long I got a '67 XR7GT Cougar and assembled a 427 to replace the 390. And during that same time frame, I was working with Brother Lon on his '67 Mustang/TP and racing with the Corrunker Brothers with their T-Bolt and the Romy-Hammes-sourced CJ Mustang with which we held the Super E Automatic MPH record for most of that season.

Other projects have included a chopped-top, full-frame-and-cage '72 Pinto with a 385 SCJ-based 466, several bottle-fed Ford Turbo cars, the '63 F-100 ICB short-bed with a succession of FE engines and a Volare front suspension that I've owned for more than 20 years, and my latest project, an '02 Lincoln LS, bought new, and now with roll-cage and fire-suppression system and belly pan Maxton E/F CC record holder.

And finally, a more serious Land Speed car that'll be FE powered. The goal is to better 300 MPH with a car you can drive to the store. It's wonderful what a pair of hair-dryers, a bottle, and overhead cams can do.

Duane Bjornson here, I have been on the FE forum for a while but mostly lurking and don't post much.
I started working at a Ford dealer when I was 16 as a helper and one of the techs there had 13 Mustangs from 65 to 72. He got me hooked on the FE engine. I left Ford at 19 and started an apprenticeship in the HVAC&R industry working for the Trane corporation. I worked in commercial and industrial refrigeration for 15 years until the local apprenticeship training center hired me full time as the HVAC&R instructor!

Cars 72 Mustang (was the first). Sold the 72 and bought a 68 Mustang coup and beat the crap out of it but had fun. Sold it to get my 69 convertible which is my on going project that my wife loves to hate. I was excited to see Jay making a 69 Shelby clone. Not many of them around and they are unique which is why I am cloning one. My project has evolved through the years (kids take time) but I enjoy the time I get to tinker with it. With the SOHC there has always been something that needs custom attention (engine is set back 3") but it's fun.
Great amount of knowledge with the different people posting and I enjoy reading and learning.

One of my latest mock up pics
