FE Technical Forum / Block came with NO 427 Side Spacers (Spacer Fitting)
« on: December 06, 2025, 12:45:51 PM »
Hello, When fitting the spacers in a 427 block (block came without spacers), if all torqued down and crank spins freely are you good to go? I have been picking up spacers at swap meets and have an assortment.

Thanks for replies, but I would not touch the heads in any way other than increase valve size. Bone shock engine. If I replaced valves, is there any downside to larger valves? I am thinking no.

FE Technical Forum / Beneficial to put CJ valves in a 390 GT Head?
« on: November 03, 2025, 12:21:06 PM »
Hello, just wondering if anyone has ever done a comparison on putting the larger CJ valves in a stock 390 GT head.

I was thinking 100 PSI would be sufficient but what is machine shop standard?

6
Yes that's another idea.
I would never try and remove screw in core plugs. They won't come out without the risk of damaging the block. After being in for 50 years there in for good.

Screw in freeze plugs so won't take out. OK now the acid solution is up the ally of what I was referring to. Engine won't be taken apart. Engine has always had antifreeze so there is no real rust just brown sediment at the bottom. No "flakes". What about engine foaming degreaser? A couple of cans in each side?

Hello, I have a motor I can run on a engine stand, what would be a good way to clean crud out of the bottom of the block where the water plugs are? I pulled water plugs (one on each side at bottom of block) and had to get a piece of wire to break thru the stuff to get what little coolant was in there out. Motor was built about 45 years ago, has hardly any miles on it but has always had antifreeze in it.  Stuff that cam out was like a thick brown gue. What will dissolve that stuff if I repeatedly put in and drain? Also any recommendations for coolant hose filters?

As per the title of this thread > HIGH BREAKAGE RATE & High Maintenace > END

Hello, Just wondering if the process of cleaning thru Electrolysis is safe for cleaning stock valves being the type of metals involved? Did a couple and removed baked on stuff pretty good. Best thing is no real labor. Takes a little while though if you're not in a rush.

I wanted to see how much cam. Too much can't be used on the street.

FE Technical Forum / Is the same finish hone used on all blocks
« on: March 08, 2025, 08:12:58 PM »
Just wondering if the type of finish hone really makes a difference in the ring sealing. When people bring their block to a machine shop to be honed, I'm sure they don't ask "what type of a stone are you using" There are diamond hones, stone hones etc.? What should I ask the machine shop about their honing process if anything at all?

Thanks, what do you mean by "tailored".

Hello, what tool is used to make the recessed indentations for the cross bolt washers in the block?
