FE Technical Forum / Push Rod Legnth with Harland Sharp Rockers
« on: January 27, 2024, 09:01:23 PM »
Hello, I built a 427 with C4AE High Riser Heads years ago. Still have it. The Harland Sharp Rockers adjusting bolts are pretty far down (almost all the way) with about a .600" solid cam. I remember reading that there should only be a couple of threads showing below the rocker bottom. Would that "Rule" apply to all rockers no matter what type?  Is that "Rule" even correct. This motor has also broken the end off a rocker shaft with hardly any miles (under 1000 miles). I'm thinking that the push rods are way too short. Thanks

FE Technical Forum / 427 block with no spacers
« on: December 03, 2023, 11:19:09 AM »
Hello, if the side spacers were lost on a 427 block, is it possible to fit with new ones without line boring if everything else is OK?
What would be the procedure?

Hello, making engine run stand and will be using truck manifolds. I can't seem to find a simple mating flange with short pipe that would bold to the stock manifolds. This I guess would take a doughnut. I only want a short adapter and will piece together after that. Could bold headers on but I am trying to keep the amount of space this will occupy to a minimum. Thanks

FE Technical Forum / Distributor stuck in block.
« on: October 22, 2023, 11:41:18 AM »
Hello, I have a distributor that won't budge. Motor has been sitting for decades. I pulled the pan and the distributor gear looks OK (no rust) but the rods do have surface rust. All in all the insides didn't look too bad. Heads are off and intake will move around so it is stuck in the bottom. I pulled the pan and put heat on the nose where it rests in the block as have been tapping the oil pump drive rod (not too hard) been putting PB Blaster on it and it won't budge or even spin on the shaft. It's a CJ distributor so don't want to damage it. Next I'm going to put spacers under the intake (to raise it up for more access maybe an inch or 2) and see if I can get channel locks (with rubber to protect distributor casting) on the part that rests in the intake where the rubber seal is and see if I can at least get it to spin.
At this point I'm willing to listen to any suggestions, Thank you

Hello, just wondering if anybody is planning on making a plain steel end support stand for a Ford High Riser head C4EA-F. Something you can just bolt on a stock head. Steel> because there will not be a lot of material on the bottom for support and aluminum wouldn't be strong enough. Surprised nobody makes these yet. Doesn't have to be anything fancy. I'm sure there are plenty of guys with High Riser heads who would buy them. The only alternative is the Dove System which is very nice but too elaborate for a street engine and nobody is going to want to loosen and replace head bolts on a running sealed engine.

Just wondering which would be a better choice or best match for a 427 FE if just putting in 1 sleeve. The harder Ductile Iron or a Standard Cast Iron sleeve?

FE Technical Forum / Piston availability for a 428 with a 4.200 bore
« on: March 13, 2023, 02:27:28 PM »
Just wondering if there are any off the shelf pistons for a 428 with a 4.200 bore. Currently has 1 split cylinder but I might resleeve that one hole and short fill and go with it. Block currently has all 8 cylinders sleeved and is home made cross bolted w/427 caps. This is a 73 "C" heavy duty block.

Just wondering if the Super Duty Manley's are the best flowing valves for a stock replacement in the 428 Cobra Jet heads. If not, which valves will perform better? Have any comparisons been done on this? Thanks

FE Technical Forum / Why not use 5/16" valve stems in performance builds?
« on: September 25, 2022, 10:22:47 PM »
Hello, I was reading some of the FE builds and they were using 11/32" valve stems. Why not go down to a 5/16" stem like the Hemi's?

FE Technical Forum / Tunnel Wedge intake matted to TFS Heads?
« on: July 18, 2022, 12:56:23 AM »
Anyone tried that combo? Also will the Tunnel Wedge intake ports line up correctly with the TFS heads with no port work? (wouldn't want to hack up an original piece of history) Might be a great combo, don't think I've heard it talked about in all of these forums!

FE Technical Forum / Is this a Reproduction Cobra Lamans Valve cover?
« on: April 04, 2022, 06:44:04 PM »
Just wondering if this is an original or not. No part # on the inside but is old. I'm thinking early reproduction.
Only the 0ne.

Hello, I was just wondering if there was any reason why I couldn't use an automatic flex plate with a 4-speed blowshield to fire up an engine on the engine stand.  I am thinking all the measurements for the starter engagement should be the same for 4 speed and automatic between these parts. Thanks
