FE Technical Forum / lower hose numbers
« on: August 05, 2022, 07:44:56 PM »
So I have a crossflow in my mustang and my lower hose is 2 hoses that I cut up and made one with a union. I had a little book with part numbers in it because it took me forever to figure out which 2 hoses would work. Now of course when you want to find it I cant. I cant be the only one that has done this Ive seen it on a few cars. If somebody has the numbers that would be great.

So if everything stays on schedule my motor will be dynoed on Wednesday. I have been trying to figure out what my other motor made by all the calculators and my recent post on drivetrain loss. But
I guess it won’t really matter come Wednesday but I just wanted to figure out what I gained with the rebuild. So this is the setup or should I say everything I know at this time.
63.5 427 CO 4.265 bore—4.250 stroke
Scat H beam
Diamond pistons 10.5 to 1 compression (which is a smidge less than I had). 10.75 before.
All of the above is from previous motor.
Cam solid roller 258/265 @50 650 lift on a 112 lobe
Crower lifters
Survival heads with a 2.22 intake for Blair’s valve job no work to them besides a clean up in chamber.
Springs 290 closed and 550 open. ( not positive I have it written down).
TD race rockers
Manton 3/8 1.45 wall
Still have the blue thunder 2x4
Quick fuel 750s
This is all I have now if I think of anything else I will update.
So let’s guess.
I don’t have any prizes like Brent and Ross you will have to settle for an ata boy.

I know obviously every car is different but let’s say my car, obviously a 9 inch and a c-6 with 3000 stall what do you think the horsepower loss is. I know a c-4 doesn’t draw as much horsepower Jay said it was a big difference. If I do the Wallace calculator it says I have about 490-507 horsepower at the rear wheels depending on the weight I put in. Was wondering what the loss is to know approximately what it was making at the crank.

FE Technical Forum / exhaust change
« on: October 04, 2021, 09:15:50 PM »
So thinking about new exhaust for my car. I have 3 inch flowmasters right now and I have run them at the track and taken them off and they dont really hold the car back much. That being said the drone is just to much. I would rather sacrifice alittle bit and be able to hear myself think. What is everybody running. I really need to hear the different sounds whether they are Borla, Magnaflow or whatever else is out there. I dont want to make up an exhaust and not like the sound.

FE Technical Forum / Engine angles
« on: August 04, 2021, 10:44:20 AM »
So dad had back surgery and I have been given the task of helping him get it going. So it’s a 33 roadster now was wondering what the engine angles should be so I have a starting point. I seem to remember a post about this around six months ago but can’t find it. Do you start with the motor at a certain degree and go back towards the rear.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Headers
« on: July 04, 2021, 10:05:48 PM »
So I figured since I have the motor out I would get new ceramic headers. Well it was only a year ago they were 740 bucks and I have a 100 dollar gift certificate, so I just went to Jegs and summit and they are now 890 bucks. The shame of it all is after 2 or 3 years they start to rust. Well I guess I will be recoating them. Anyone know how much that is now so I know what to expect.

FE Technical Forum / Ballast
« on: June 13, 2021, 08:10:52 PM »
I know we like to get our cars as lite as possible within reason. I’m using my car as an example, the front of my car is a good 450 lbs heavier than the back. To even the car out to 50/50 adding let’s say 3 or 400 lbs of ballast seem like a lot of weight to add. You would think that would slow the car down. If anyone could explain or give me there ballast setups.

Jay my fat fingers hit wrong section could you put this in the technical section

FE Technical Forum / Running hot
« on: June 05, 2021, 05:49:16 PM »
Ok first off sorry not FE but helping a neighbor.
68 Camero 540 ci 9.0 to 1 compression (690) HP on motor.
F2 procharger with intercooler low in front of radiator.
Tranny cooler high in front of radiator but both are about 6 inches away.

He has had this set up for a while. He just freshened up motor and the only difference is an electric water pump. (Highest flow pump JEGS make) and he was told by Miezer and Ron Davis not to run a thermostat.

So now the problem is he can let it idle forever and never go over about 192-95 degrees.
If he goes on the parkway the temp creeps up slowly may take 5 miles or so but it goes to 220 then he can get off parkway and cruise around town and temp goes back down to 195. So I know some of the guys use an electric pump I was wondering do you use a thermostat. You would think cruising it would run cooler. A little help please so I can advise this Chevy guy.

FE Technical Forum / Rocker spacing
« on: April 28, 2021, 06:55:35 PM »
curious about how everyone spaces there rockers on the shaft. Is there a spec like .025 between rocker and shims or is it just a feel thing. Theres gotta be something. I had a rocker break  once and changed just one and somehow it got tight when hot and upon tear down at the end of the year had a cam bearing worn on the opposite side of the rocker so it was like putting pressure on bearing. As some may know I have motor out and today took cam out which wouldnt come out easily and found 2 cam bearings like that. I did just get new rockers and put it all back the same way everything seamed like it had the right play but I never checked them hot. you would never know there was a problem. The first time it happened and i found the tight rocker after i got it  all back together after 500 miles I checked it to make sure it was fixed. So apparently I have the same thing happening. So I will be spacing all the rockers again from scratch but was wondering if there is a certain way to do it. If they have to much play does it bleed off oil pressure??. Alittle help please
