FE Technical Forum / Cam degreeing
« on: February 27, 2021, 07:39:54 PM »
Besides being able to advance or retard the cam (more top end or low end). Is there a big horsepower difference. Almost all the cams I have had I put in straight up because they were advanced 4 degrees from the manufacturer. The short block that I have now was done by Barry Im sure he degreed it. What if it was just straight up would there be much difference.

Sorry Jay I put this in wrong section feel free to move it I would appreciate it.

FE Technical Forum / scat 4.250 crank
« on: February 11, 2021, 03:53:00 PM »
Just curious the scat cranks that we are using use Chevy bearings for the rods. Do they also use Chevy bearings for the mains. And when you get a new crank does it go in standard or are they cut .010 from the get go. Of course I wouldnt order anything till I take it apart but just wanted to ask ahead of time.  So the reason Im asking is I have about 1500 street miles and a ballpark 60 1/8 mile passes and about 50 1/4 miles passes. No over revving or anything but as you guys know when I went of the track although I didnt see any dirt in intake when I took off carbs some dust could have been sucked in and im sort of looking to nip it in the bud so to speak. Any opinions.

FE Technical Forum / putting out feelers
« on: October 01, 2020, 09:12:43 PM »
So I have 2 questions, was just wondering if it would pay to get cylinder heads ported. Most know my setup 280/288--621/624
solid cam out of the box survival heads. And I know having heads that flow well are always good but without changing the cam to a bigger cam im wondering if these heads flow enough for this cam and power output might not benifit with this smaller cam.

Also I have almost 1500 miles of street miles and about 50 1/4 mile passes and 60 1/8 mile passes does anybody think I should be putting bearings in at this point. Im not seeing any problems just thinking preventive maintanance. And while i had it apart is when i would get heads ported if you guys think it would benifit.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Big Red
« on: August 20, 2020, 08:59:01 PM »
So apparently back in 1964 Ford made a Semi truck that ran off of a turbine engine. The big three all made one and Fords was at the 64 worlds fair with the mustang. After that Ford did a country wide tour with it. When it proved that it wasnt practical three big three crushed there prototypes. But wait the website The Drive is looking for Big Red because they believe it wasnt crushed. Rumor has it that it was decommissioned in the end of 1971 and through talking to a bunch of Ford people around the country people were saying thatHolman and Moody got ahold of it and put it in a warehouse somewhere and forgotten about. It was engineered by Roy Lunn (mister GT 40). When John Holman took over he had a everything must go yard sale of the century. Big Red was sold to an anonymous buyer and disapeared. I know alot of the guys on the forum know alot about  H&M so I was just wondering if anybody has even seen it. The middle trailor was sold to a team called Bardahl autolite racing which was a hydroplane boat racing team.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 63 Galaxie
« on: June 23, 2020, 02:25:43 PM »
Just curious if anybody saw the 63 Galaxie on Street outlaws last night. Unfortunately it had a Mod motor in it with twin turbos. But besides the stupid ground effects lights that it had on it it was pretty sweet. And to boot the thing honked.

FE Technical Forum / Linkage slowdown
« on: October 12, 2019, 01:47:47 PM »
So was wondering. If I wanted to slow my car down because of no roll cage could I swap rear carb linkage and have rear carb not open all the way or is that bad for the motor.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Tranny up shift 2-3
« on: June 08, 2019, 06:03:36 PM »
So took car out for the first time after surgery. Wasn’t running that great till it ran for a little while, took it for a ride adjusted carb and all was good. Took it for a couple of short rides all good. Just got back from a pretty good ride maybe 20 miles. Got home readjusted carb running mint, shut it off and one of the kids wanted to go for a ride. Start it up take off and all of a sudden it doesn’t want to shift automatically into 3rd. It’s a TCI tranny and it’s my second one that I’ve had and both of them shift 1-2 within 20 feet and into third about 50 -75 feet. Now it’s shifting into second at 75 feet and doesn’t shift into 3rd. Now I just put a new manifold on and ran a new modulator hose, which I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have burnt  a hole in it but will check of course but that would kill my back. Tranny cooler was nice and cool after the ride and it’s 80 degrees and a little humid. Could the modulator have taken a dump. This tranny only has maybe 1000 miles on it.

I have a set of 6114 headers that have no cracks, one dimple were pitman arm would hit on tight turns. I had them ceramic coated and didn’t like how they came out and sure enough 4 Year’s later started peeling off. Bought a new ceramic coated set when I installed new motor.
                                200.00

I also have a top loader that was behind a 351 Cleveland 4bl motor, my dad bought it from a friend 20 years ago. Will get tag number. From memory it’s a small spline. TAG# RUG-AV. CASE #7006-DW2
                                 400.00
Also have a dual point 427 Accel distributor Part number 30200 number under it is D56370. Has points in it and they look good by my 52 year old eyes. The points have been in there since the late 80s I don’t know if that’s a good set or not. Spinning it it sounds snappy. I don’t know what it’s worth maybe a dizzy guy can chime in.

Unfortunately I’m computer illiterate posting pictures but if interested will send pictures via text.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / EFIN FAST
« on: May 15, 2019, 05:29:05 PM »
So was looking at racing videos and came across a koenigsegg Agera it did 250 miles per hour in 27 seconds and from 250 mph to 0 in 9.5 seconds. Yeah I know we can’t afford it but WOW. What was the time that the AC cobra did 0-100-0 in 12.5 or 13 sec. And that’s fast!
0-250-0 in 38 seconds.     And that’s stupid fast!

And they just came out with a car that is faster than this.
