FE Technical Forum / adjustable timing set
« on: September 16, 2015, 02:56:10 PM »
Anyone here use either the Lunati #95105 or the comp cams #3108kt adjustable billet timing chain sets ? Looks like the cam gear has 6* + or - of adjustment as well as multiple key ways on the crank gear. I was wondering if this is similar to the set up that Barry was developing and hoping cloyds would catch on..

I second thundercat.. there will be some interference with stock type height valve covers and the cj covers you mentioned. Its not much and I know one guy that slightly ground the top outside corner of the stands (hd stands that bolt to head stud/bolt) on each end so he could use the covers. Personally I wouldn't have done that. If I just had to use the cj covers I would have used a spacer/riser instead. They seem to clear any of the tall or pintroof style or fabricated valvecovers though. If its the standard HD end supports that don't bolt to the stud/bolt then it should clear just fine. Of course after removing the baffle as cjshaker said..

Darn those Visner heads just have that Pro/Stock looking ports. Do they have coolant passages?

So a milodon cheater set up properly robs no more power than a chain setup and should be good to go on a high hp drag race fe ?
Could the adjustments be made through one of jays covers or would the cover have to come off to make them ?
No input on the cam reserch setup ?

How about the adjustable cam drive offered by cam research.  ?  Its been available for several years. Anyone here have any experience with it? Seems to offer more cam adjustments than the chain or milodon gear drive and is about 500$ cheaper than the Danny bee . With no major modifications.
Any thoughts. ?

What the opinion on these types of cam drives. ?
Are gear drives really that hard on things?  Power robbing ?
Belt drives worth the hype ? Definitely alot of serious racers using them.
Just looking for opinions. .

He has put together a few 1000hp + Fe's . Personally I think a 1000hp Fe is as reliable as any other 1000hp push rod engine as long as the good stuff is used .. cost $ ? Well yeah, theres the deciding factor. ..  maybe oneday,  in my dreams at least.

thats to bad. had hoped they would blow the dust off one of those 63 1/2's and bring it out. 422 puts on a good show though. still worth the trip ,,, to me anyway.

Bottom line is that no matter the numbers, flow rate or opinions,  (including mine) , oil accumulators are certainly not going to hurt anything as long as there adequate amount of oil in the system.
To me its just plain and simple ,  accumulators = cheep insurance.
