Also the XL door panels are fancier.

I was looking at that site too.  The "body" code and the 3rd and 4th digits of the VIN indicate whether it's an XL.  Both should "match" each other, though different codes are used in the two locations so it's the meaning of the codes that should match, not the literal codes if that makes sense.  Also compare the door tag VIN to the one on the passenger side cowl under the hood to make sure they match each other.  Not having the external XL spear trim seems suspicious.

FE Technical Forum / Re: engine oil 482 solid roller first start

I used Brad Penn/PennGrade break in oil.  It's 10W30.  This was for breaking in a hydraulic flat tappet cam.  I would think you would have more leeway with a roller, so you might be okay with Valvoline VR1, which for me is cheaper and available nearby at NAPA.  Comes in 10W30 and various straight weights.

I'm guessing just a low fever (< 100.5) and tiredness for a couple of days, not due to being sick, just as your body gets busy building up the antibodies indicated by the vaccine.  That's how you know it's working.  Good luck!

P.S. Does the closest without going over get a free t-shirt or stickers?  ;D

I've got a Realistic 8 track deck plugged into the Pioneer SX-550 in the basement bar.  I think it's only a player though.  And an in-dash AM/FM/8-track in the Galaxie with a small under dash Audiovox equalizer/booster, pretty much like when I had my first Galaxie in high school.

Good luck with your hunt.  I've read that most "independent" web sites that review mattresses (and likely extends to other products) are not impartial at all and receive kickbacks from the various manufacturers.  If they don't give consistent, positive reviews for a manufacturer, the money stops coming in.  So their reviews are worthless.

You might check to see if you have a local manufacturer in your state.  We do in Indiana, and they seem to have a good reputation for quality construction.  You might have one of these smaller, niche places nearby too.

I've also read that the claims you have to/should replace every 8 years is a crock as well.  Also the trend where only one side of the mattress is usable (meaning you can't flip it) is a gimmick as well.  I don't know about lately, but a few years ago it was almost impossible to find one in a store where both sides of the mattress were usable.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 1965 427 with two 4s timing specs
« on: November 28, 2020, 11:21:54 AM »
Not to disagree, just to answer the original question, here's a free link to the 1965 shop manual:

http://oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/Ford/1965/FordMercuryShopManual/index.html

The pages at the end of chapter 9 give the initial timing specs. for the 427 8V (8 degrees BTDC), and the advance characteristics of the mechanical advance distributor.  Remember the advance specs. are in distributor degrees and RPMs.

I just thought it was funny, especially with Low, Medium, and High lights coming on.

It's to let you know something is still going on, like the spinning wheel when a web page is loading. :)

Just for my own clarification and curiosity, are you looking for a set of pistons or just one?  My original take was you had 8 but one rolled off the workbench or hit a valve or broke a skirt or something, and you wanted a replacement identical to the other 7.

Hope you guys are doing okay.  Here we get tornadoes now and then but nothing that lasts for days and days.

Have you tried www.searchtempest.com?  It does a google search of craigslist ads within X miles of a zip code.  It took me a few minutes to figure out but works pretty good.  Start by putting in the search terms using google's syntax.  E.g.:

1964 ford "galaxie" | "galaxy"

Put in your zip code, and select how many miles you want to search in.  Leave this kind of low to start with, as it's easy to get too many nuisance hits until you pare down your search criteria.  I suggest clicking on the "Filters" option, and selecting Search Titles Only.  This gets rid of a bunch of dealer ads where they put every conceivable keyword in to get hits.  Click the search button and you'll get a bunch of cities listed below, as it searches all these CL sites around your zip code.  Click the Open All button.  It will open a bunch of tabs (might have to allow pop-ups), one per city/area, with the results for that location.  Now just go through the tabs one by one.  There should only be a screenful or so for each site.  You can close the tabs as you go through them.  Ctrl-W works for me.  You just have to experiment with it.  If you get a bunch of irrelevant matches, adjust the search terms.  I think you can put in stuff with a minus in front to exclude those words.  If the results look okay, you can increase the distance to search from your zip.  It will open more tabs when you click Open All.

Bad thing about just using shims per stand is that the end stands are not fully supported.  That's why I had my one-piece laser cut stands made.

I forgot you had those, and had to look it up!  Sounds like the stands are the only missing puzzle piece.

I'm gonna yell at Doug again and talk to him about it.  Even if he made stands 1/4" shorter, shimming up is pretty easy and you could shim based on the rocker arm.

Maybe include a pack of 5 shims per stand, at something like 2 @ .050, 1 @ .030 and 2 @ .020.  Don't know if that's feasible or not.

That's a ton of fuel pressure.

Agreed.  I hooked a vacuum / pressure gauge on mine when I had the fuel line disconnected, just to check, and it was a steady 4 lbs (mechanical pump).

FE Technical Forum / Re: Where to hook up my Pink 12V wire for Sniper?
« on: August 21, 2020, 02:05:47 PM »
My gut tells me you could even hook it to the coil feed and it would be happy during crank and run

I was thinking the same thing.  Worst case, you could use a small relay off the coil feed, in case the EFI wanted 12V but the pink resistor wire was still in play.
