FE Technical Forum / Re: Best head for a 352 build
« on: March 18, 2016, 04:58:18 PM »
Ive been planning a 352 build for a while, and I'll cast my vote for the C6AE-U   GT390 heads.....they have the soft D chamber that's listed at 67.1 to 70.1cc's and the smaller velocity ports that I think 352 needs.  C7AE-A  GT's would be my next choice.

I'm wondering since you're going with custom pistons whether you're using stock length  6.54 inch or the shorter 6.488 rods?    I thought if I went the custom route , I'd have them made for the shorter rod since there are Hi performance  rods available and to get a slightly more favorable rod to stroke ratio.

I also think that the Edelbrock Performer intake would be perfect for the 352.

Good luck......M

The Short Iron Headers    WILL NOT FIT    in 65 or later Galaxies.....I tried when built my 65.  The C5AE- C  and H  long headers will fit 65 through 67 for sure,  but Ive no experience with 68 models.

Hmmm.....for some reason I'm picturing something resembling the Gurney Eagle here...................

Why not design a hybrid?   How about a tunnel port  high riser...?  A new/old  design that straightens the port by routing the push rods through the port, but with up to date high port entry?

Jay,   I think your intake base would make a great Hilborn injector manifold if you developed a throttle /intake system to  bolt on......or even as a Weber base.

Be kinda cool......same base runs tunnel ram, injector, Webers or single four.........

I can even see using it as a base for an old school Rat/Hot rod 6v or even 8v log style intake.

See........chevy parts do have a legitimate use on a Ford.......when you need to slow down!

Well this was a well timed post, as Ive been wondering the same thing for a while..........Way back in 1976 (I was 18)  I bought an Engle solid roller cam set up with Rev kit from a guy who had  worked fro Shelby American 10 yrs earlier ......it was made to run in their 289 Dragon Snake Cobra...in S/S, I believe....he said something about a rule change about roller cams and it was never used........I still have it....has still got the cosmoline and Shelby American/Engle tag attached.........I believe the numbers were around 460. lift /288 adv duration.....Ive never thought of using the solid rollers that came with it, because frankly,I don't think they look up to the task of operating in a street driven car....but I was wondering if I could use it with Fords 5.0 hydraulic roller  lifters in my 68 302 GT Mustang......which currently is bone stock.
Or , do you guys think it would have any more  value to a collector.....as a NOS set up from the Dragon Snake efforts?

FE Technical Forum / 65 Galaxie cast iron headers
« on: March 20, 2013, 06:48:51 PM »
Just finished replacing Sanderson shorty headers with a set of original C5AE long iron headers on my 65 Galaxie and I love them........finally,   all the noise is coming out the back.
I'm running Cherry Bombs strait back without a crossover so there's plenty of noise....it's just not under my feet anymore.

Ive already received 4 compliments from strangers on it's sound, so I'm happy........I guess I'm not the only one who digs that blap blap idle and the pop pop popping on deceleration.

And best of all , according to Jays dyno tests, at my power  level, I sure I'm not giving up any power.....and maybe gaining a few.

The ride to the muffler shop uncorked was fun too...........clutch in while going past the courthouse/police station of course.

Signed,  Happy Camper.

I just saw Leno's video the other day and emailed Hotchkis and received a reply that they ARE going into production on those parts.....so I am definitely hoping to purchase the front end pieces  for my 65 Galaxie.
There are high performance rear control control arms and panard rods from a couple suppliers  already available ,  so if Hotchkis could concentrate on the front end parts first it'll get us on the road sooner.

I'm sure 1960 to 64 Galaxie owners would also appreciate a modern suspension.

Yes, I agree Machoneman.....you can never assume anything with an old car/engine.  I can't tell from the Photo which car it is, but I'm guessing its a Galaxie or a pickup. ....the brake cylinder hints that it's a  67 or later.......the general neglect and the Porto-Sonic/Carter  screams 353/360/390 to me.....but it's always worth a look.

Did any 427s use vacuum advance distributors?

I'm curious.............what kind of oiling setup is that depicted in those catalog cover pictures?

Jay,  those numbers make me think that the 1960  352 Hi Po really did make 360 HP ......... even with the lousy aluminum intake.
