Long Cast Iron Headers
« on: February 22, 2016, 10:58:52 PM »
   Hey guys,

Is it known if the long cast iron headers from the early 60's will fit into a 68 fullsize with C-6? Do they reproduce these long cast headers? I'm sure they don't flow as good as tubular headers, do they flow much better than stock logs?

   thanks,

Would be great if somebody would cast them again but haven't seen any mention of it.
Those were some good exhaust manifolds!

and 427 long headers is not far behind the best
tubular headers. And much better than stock logs

Two things I know for a fact I'd have been interested in for my build and future builds....

-Tripower intake designed for higher hp street engines (550hp-600hp out of the box)
-Galaxie longtube manifolds that are lighter and flow a hair better. (Capable of the same hp as above)

Early (pre-'65) long tube headers will NOT fit the '65 and later Galaxies.

Just realized the picture I posted is of the later long tube headers. I had found it in a craigslist ad, then looking in e-bay, I see where that guy got the original pic. C8OE-8430-D and C8OE-9431-B is what is shown in another e-bay ad. With the Barrett-Jackson level pricing on these manifolds, I think I will stick to the original logs.

You think that's bad? I saw for the very first and only time a pair of OEM Ford 427 SOHC 'long tube' cast iron headers at Don Garlit's museum in Ocala, FL. How many were made is a mystery but it was damned few as a pal told me once those 400 or so crated SOHCS, often seen in a great John Moody pic from the old Holman Moody warehouse, were headerless from the factory. One can only imagine how many Benjamins that would take these days!

Only a few SOHC cast iron headers were originally produced for testing purposes in the Galaxies, but once the production car plan was scrapped, so was the need for factory headers.

I've seen a set in person, and a few reproductions are being worked on currently.

The Short Iron Headers    WILL NOT FIT    in 65 or later Galaxies.....I tried when built my 65.  The C5AE- C  and H  long headers will fit 65 through 67 for sure,  but Ive no experience with 68 models.

Today, I bought the set of shorty headers that Lance (428kidd) had for sale in the classifieds. I was going to see if they would fit the 68 fullsize Merc. With Marx427's posting it looks like they won't fit. Luckily, the shorties will fit on my 64 Marauder.

Looking at the Mercs, I think the 67 and 68 are similar. 69 seems to be the next year for change. I bet the C5 long headers will fit------well, I hope they fit. If the 68 Colony Park gets a stroker, I would definitely like some cast iron headers. I want the performance without creating excess noise. Quiet and fast is nice.

If someone were to cast the C5 long headers I would buy two sets.

   thanks,
