I race with this group on the ice. Good times and some pretty fast cars. The nitemare 2 is 385 series powered and the owners are very nice people and love their fords. https://www.facebook.com/1320Videos/posts/10156272648032112 This should be the link to 1320's video of the LS powered yugo ice racer that I had to race in the ultimate street class. They get a good look of my truck towards the end of the video.

Well I missed drag week by a couple weeks, but I finally got the mistress back to the track. Link to some videos posted on Facebook my wife took.

I was making changes after each pass, truck kept getting faster until the last pass when I tried the short and fat drag radials I bought to try and crutch the streetable 4.10 gear in the truck, it really probably needs a 4.57 gear.. Will have to try them again on a good track someday. Truck gained 150 lbs between the new rearend, disc brakes, 35 spline axles, 6 point rollbar, aftermarket block, and other safety items. After I redo the wheel tubes and bed floor I'd guess it's gonna gain at least another 50 lbs and change out the aluminum center section for a iron one. Still running on just the edelbrock mechanical fuel pump and 3/8 line, will have to finish the install of the 1/2 line and electric pump and see if the performance improves any.

Redline? What's that used for? Lol, I hit the recall on the Tach and it said 7400, which is where I got the rev limiter set I think. Shift lite is set for 6600 and 6800. Converter was setup tight on purpose, and I really don't want to put 4.57/4.86 gears in it for street driving, so I need to find some more power, less weight, or get the short tire to work at the track with the truck. Yes I want to run drag week but I was a couple weeks short this year, maybe next year if it's not too far away.

Well, a little update on the 520 deal, it's been a very very long road to get to the this point, but I'm glad to say I finally got the truck down the track with the new engine and almost all the updates on the truck, new rearend with back brace and disk brakes, home fabricated rear suspension, rollbar, trans shield, etc. Still on the to do list: is widen the wheel tubs and reinstall, build a new floor for the box, run second fuel line for fuel system, probably change rear gear, and converter. I made four passes  Friday at the street car event at kaukauna wi. First test pass was 11.26 @ 118 short shifting and using two step, second was pass was 10.77 @ 124 leaving against the converter and not short shifting, 3rd pass was after changing from my dambest 980 cfm 4150 flanged carb to my 1150 dominator carb and was rewarded with a 10.56 @ 126, all these passes and only going threw the traps about 5800-5900 rpm with the 4.10 gear and 31.5 tall tire. 4th and final pass I changed to my new drag radials which are only 27.8 tall and about 12" wide, track was cold and I did a huge burnout to break them in but they were probably to hot and the mistress just knocked em off leaving the line, so I pedaled her once and got right back in it and went 10.69 @ 128 despite losing over 2 tenths at the 60 ft, but the shift lite was on before I crossed the finish so it definetly wants more gear. For a first outing on a marginal cold track, on a bunch of new never tested parts I'm fairly happy, there's more in it for sure. Truck weighs about 4100 lbs after all the changes, and it's probably gonna be closer to 4200 after it's finished with me in it, Shes heavy.

I believe the spacing is 4.625 for the end cylinders, unsure of the spacing between the middle cylinders 2 and 3...

That maroon/primer Torino is my buddy,Luke Krueger's car, has a new stroker small block in it, sadly has converter and trans issues so it got left at Cordova and he is riding co pilot with his brother bob in the 79 AMC Spirit AMX car, really wish I was there, sounds like everybody is having a ball...

Well it wasn't from a lack of effort but I will not be heading to drag week this year :(... truck isn't quite ready and I'm burned out from a very long week at my machine shop trying to fill orders and make parts for the truck with not a lot of sleep. Roll bar is in, new rearend is mocked up under the truck as of now with its new spring brackets, perches, shackles, and springs but there is gussets to be made, finish weld all the brackets, set ride height, fab shock mounts, finish brake lines, widen wheel tubs, new bigger radiator to make fit and re plumb. Oh well maybe next year, you guys all have fun and be safe. I hope to hear/read some updates/news from social media about the event and the FE's entered..

Doug,

I broke a 31 spline Yukon axle this June at the all ford race in Kentucky that I go to every year, the axles are well used and well over ten years old, last 6-7 have been taking the abuse of the wide open transbrake launches and mid/upper 1.5 60 foots at 4000 lbs, they are/were on borrowed time, they are also in the older, lighter housing, not the heavy truck housing that most people use. Anyway I don't trust them anymore, they been good to me for a long time, just time to upgrade for reliability sake, and to ease my mind, the suspension has to change because the new housing/ axles are 4 inches narrower than stock, the tires/rims would rub on the springs if I didn't relocate the springs closer to the frame, I went with the narrower housing to help tuck the tires inside the fenders because they stuck out of the fenders and I didn't like the look, the upgrade to rear disk brakes will be a  welcomed improvement also, heavy object moving fast is hard to stop quickly lol. Anyway, just like every other project of mine, they snowball out of control really fast.

Well just a little update on my junk, she survived the 50 mile trip pulling a car trailer with a golf cart and 120 feet or so of tubing, to meet the tubing bender at my buddies house, the mistress is back home finishing up the rollbar welding and new seat and belt brackets. Was hoping for an opportunity to make a few test passes but I'm afraid that won't happen at a track if at all before the event. I still have a rear axle and suspension to change, as well as install a larger radiator, as it ran hotter than I'm comfortable with on the highway and threw town. Also need to add the extra electric fuel pump. My friend Mike got his vacation time approved so I do have a copilot going with now.

Side note I seen Jay Brown listed under modified NA on hot rods website?

How strict are they going to be for proof of registration?  the truck has had collector plates on it for 20 years? All I have is the title and the plates that are on the truck. Would that be sufficient?  I recently put insurance back on it so that's not a problem but as far as the little registration paper that comes with the plates that is long gone lol,  thanks again

OK I'll have to check the sfi rating code on my jacket, stock bench seat in the truck and it's gonna stay that way not sure where I would put a headrest since when I have my helmet on in the truck my head is pretty much against the back window already... I was looking in the rulebook and they don't give a height dimension for the 1.25 seatbelt bar?  I assume it needs to be below my shoulders to help hold me down in the seat but I'm uncertain how low I can put it because there's not a Lot of room behind the seat in that cab.. thanks for all the advice so far and any other pointers you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated

I'm uncertain if I'm going solo yet or not.  hard to get anybody to take a week of vacation to ride along and fix anything that breaks on the mistress... I don't blame them but it would be nice to have somebody to keep me awake... do I need a race license for faster than 11.0? If so thats probably a problem... hoping to have cage installed after this weekend... fit the rest in before the following weekend... been talking about making this trip since I met Jay at kaukauna in 2006? 2007? Should be a hoot if plans come together.

I have lots of work to get done but I'm planning on attending. Not booking any hotels or anything, maybe I can snag one at one of the stops along the way. Otherwise does anybody know if any of the tracks have shower facilities? I've slept in the truck enough times but a shower can sure make a person feel refreshed... I bought a slew of safety items the truck needed to be legal for sub 11 ET's... hopefully I didn't forget anything and hot rod will clear me for faster than 11's.   If I read the IHRA rule book correctly, items I needed are 5 point harness, 1-3/4 x 0.118 6 point roll bar, sfi balancer and flexplate, transmission shield, driveshaft loop, wheelbstuds to the end of the lugnuts...  along with getting all that installed, I have to get the new 35 spline rearend, new leafs and brackets installed, sort out the new rear disc brakes, also run a second fuel line for the extra electric pump I purchased since I feel the edelbrock mechanical pump isn't up to the task to keep the new engine fed...nothing like a thrash before dragweek... can you guys that have participated before let me know if there's anything I've missed or over looked? Besides making major changes right before dragweek lol. Thanks
