FE Technical Forum / Re: 498ci FE 4150 vs 4500 Carb Help
« on: November 12, 2023, 07:36:35 PM »
I have a 520 cube pro port headed FE in my 4200lb  F100 went from 10.77 @ 124 to 10.56 @ 126 when I went from my 980 Dambest 4150 carb to my 2 circuit 1150 dominator both on gas with my 1” tall adaptor I built… I have a modified Victor intake that is a 4500 flange though.  So I manufactured an adaptor that’s universal and can be used either way… going to a 1250 methanol dominator netted another 1.5 tenths in the 1/8…  picked up half of it in the 60ft… I knew the converter was on the tight side…. The methanol helped it more than the bigger carb I believe. A Holley 8082 2 circuit 1050 is a really user friendly carb on a 470-530 cubic in engine that makes some power IMO. I’d definitely try one if I was you.

Looks like this one is November of 62, not sure if that makes it desirable or not. Local guy only wants to give $20 for it when I asked for $40… told him you can buy a repopped one new for $85 plus shipping… and it won’t be the correct one… he approached me and I don’t have to sell it, I’m a half price of new kinda guy and I probably should just keep it with the car it came from which was my 63 galaxie 500 4 door soon to be 427 with 428 crank powered… should wake it up from the very worn out 352 2 barrel that was in it… anybody need a original torque converter and cruisomatic trans from one of these cars? Trans worked… I drove the car twice a few miles, needs a converter pump seal, leaked oil steady so I didn’t drive it much for the fear of hurting trans… I have a C6 for the car so this trans/starter/converter is taking up space in my garage if somebody wants them… give me an interesting offer and the parts can go… thanks

Private Classifieds / C3AE timing cover… early version with pointer
« on: August 03, 2023, 09:11:27 AM »
What are these worth? Came off a core engine I had… local builder needs one and I have a couple so I thought I’d help the guy out… whats fair price for one? Dirty, needs new seal etc, but all holes are good and the pointer is there and has a couple degree marks on it. TIA

Jay’s old Victor did  not make it on this engine, I have that one in mind for another project, if I ever get to it… this engine does have a Victor Intake on it though, that needs more massaging in my opinion. I think the old pickup might pickup a little more yet once I get a few things straightened out and freshen the engine. Felt good to be back in the seat for sure.

Well it’s been a loooong while but I finally made a little time to work on the truck and take it to the track… made a couple test passes, at dragway 42 for Tony Fritz’s fast ford event, and learned some things, after all this time the 520 continues to keep chugging along in the mistress. Borrowed a standard ratio trans from my buddy Scott, slid my nitrous converter in the truck with the intention of bottle feeding the truck some this weekend. They had two quick 8 races on the schedule one of them being FE only, along with a FE only bracket race, and they’re all ford no box class which I also entered. I didn’t believe it at first when they announced my name as qualifying for the fe quick 8… the bump was 10.14. the Transbrake wasn’t working on the truck so I was two footing it and grabbing the sassy button as soon as I could… probably 10-15 ft off the line, I was kinda worried about hurting the trans or twisting off the stock C6 input shaft. Everything survived thankfully and I drove the truck to a Father’s Day cook out Sunday afternoon. So I had 73 nitrous jet in the plate (smallest that comes with the plate system I won at the ford memorial race at US 60 dragway years back, and set the timing to 27 degrees all in and was rewarded with a 10.03 and 135 mph and change,  after the second attempt on my 29.5/10.5 tires Friday night. Pulled plugs and everything looked fine and dandy, engine didn’t miss a beat. After some hard negotiating with myself back and forth Saturday morning I decided to pull 3 degrees more timing and bump the plate up to a 82 jet and put the 32/14 big tires on and let her roll the dice and see what shakes out. Finish line rpm was 7100 roughly Friday nite and I though I could do the old engine a favor and get the finish line rpm down a touch since it’s waaay overdue for a refresh. So quick 8 qualifying pass with no Transbrake again and grab the button as soon as I could I was rewarded with a 9.90 and just short of 137 mph. Kinda goofy running down a thunderbolt clone in a 4200 lb hillbilly pickup.. he went 9.84 and tree’d me a little bit but I had almost 2 mph on the car with my truck on the big end lol… wonder what he was thinking when he seen me right next to him, I didn’t get his name but it’s a beautiful burgundy t-bolt car, I assume a clone. I made one N/A pass and it went 10.93 and 122 mph but that was with the timing still pulled out. Pretty pleased with the truck’s performance, driver was suspect though, couldn’t get a green light to save my butt… last three attempts were .023,.024,.024 red… got to put names to some new faces and converse with a few old friends from ford race years gone by so it was a successful ish weekend ::)

Now to get the Booggy box installed and the Transbrake fixed to see what the truck can really do, then probably install some more bars in the cab since I surpassed the 10.00 mark without it being a perfect pass scenario. Anyway, me and the truck are still around, fun event, good people, nice venue, and plenty fast fords, just would love to see more FE’s…. Now back to reality (work)

FE Engine Dyno Results / Re: 461 Redneck truck engine.
« on: November 12, 2022, 08:28:12 AM »
Damn that thing is making some torque and good hp for the short cam… wonder what it would’ve done with a dual plane intake like a factory CJ even a PI or a performer rpm? I have parts here for something similar for my flatbed/ramp/bump side tow truck project but not apples to apples, similiar duration solid flat tappet cam and a set C8ae-h heads that are proven overachievers being the main differences. Im surprised your torque peak was that high, maybe a function of the single plane intake? Awesome to see anyway thanks for posting, gives me hope for mine anyway lol

Private Classifieds / Re: ISO 390 2292 12.5-1 pistons
« on: November 12, 2022, 06:42:55 AM »
Hello, I have a set of 0.020 over I believe diamond brand dome pistons for a 390 with new rings. I am missing two wrist pins to the set as two of the pistons are new and six have very little time on them from the looks of things. They have been weight matched and are ready to go.  I also have a 390 crank and h-beam Rods that could go with deal if need be. I acquired the pistons in a lot of parts I bought a couple years ago and they are just sitting on the shelf taking up space. I have too many other projects to finish so I’ll probably never get to build the screaming fire breathing 390 that I wanted back in the day. Send me a phone number if interested and I can send some pictures via text.

Private Classifieds / 390, 416, 428, 447 Blocks with rotating assemblies
« on: October 08, 2021, 07:30:21 AM »
Alright…

I have 4 different builds that got started and never finished that I would like to sell to a good home(s) lol. I’m trying to free up some shelf space and raise some extra money for my new shed project down payment.

First up…D4te 390 block +0.020 overbore. H-beam rods from DSC Motorsports with arp 2000 bolts weight matched, balanced factory crank, king bearings, Dome pistons that I bought off of a forum member. 6 slightly used and two new.. I believe the pistons are diamond brand… domes and weights were slightly different so I weight matched them and tried to blend/match the domes up as best I could. Block is showing just a slight shadow at the deck surface where the overbore didn’t clean up 100% on a couple cylinders. Block needs oiling mods and mock up to get measurements to get decked yet. $1500

416ish… (0.030 over 390 block)this one was adney brown’s idea. Factory 390 crank offset ground with BBC 6.385 length H-beam rods with .975 bushings installed, trw forged 390 pistons, block is bored, honed, decked, oil pump passage opened up and blended, gallery’s drilled and tapped for pipe plugs.
$1750

428… have a mirror 105/501 block at 4.130 that was bought from James Wagner “hotrodfeguy2” from the net54 forum years ago… he sonic checked it and deemed it useable at that bore size. I have a set of autotec flat top pistons, stock rods/428 crank or scat 9000 series crank and scat H-beams that could be made into a a rotating assembly for this block. Price would be dependent on which parts you wanted  to use in the build.

Second 4.130 bore block… was deemed on Facebook to be a overbored 390 block, I have not had it sonic mapped as I had acquired it in a pile of other FE parts I wanted. If I find a moment to get it to a shop that can map it out then Ill pass along  the details with a interested buyer.

447…
0.040 over 390 block
Scat 4.25 cast crank, scat 6.700 I-beam rods, diamond flat top pistons, I have the external balance flexplate for this rotating assembly. $2500

I got to get to work I will update and finish the listing later.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 2.5" vs 3" Exhaust and Muffler Options
« on: October 06, 2021, 05:15:31 AM »
I have 3” X-pipe with cut outs for when I wanna race, hooker max flow’s probably 8-10 years  old by now and probably need replacing… 3” mandrel bends over the axle a set of Dyno max race bullets after the axle and then a short section of straight pipe out the rear of my truck. Really like the sound the x-pipe gives it… was almost unbearable loud  in the cab until I added the x pipe. Still has some but bite to it when standing on the loud pedal but cruising at 3000 rpm you can still hear the radio, it is turned up pretty high but you get the idea. I’m looking at going to a 3.5” x-pipe and cutouts, and leaving the 3” tail pipes and mufflers when I have it apart next time for new headers.. 800hp N/A build

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: Blue Oval in the winner's circle on RMRW 2.0!

Congratulations on winnig your class.not many fords in the event that are ford powerd.same with drag week.as for the timming, that depends on the heads you are running.kaase heads like p51 run best at 28-32 degrees.boss heads like 32,and sr-71 do good at 28.can make a real differance in power.
whats your combo on the engine?

It's basically the earlier Ford Racing rotating assembly I bought in pieces. Scat 4.300 crank with stock length Eagle rods and Ford Racing TRW type pistons with 10.5 compression. The heads are out of the box Ford Racing SCJ heads and the cam is a Comp xr292 solid roller. The intake is a Victor with a 1050 Quickfuel 4150 carb. It's all out of the box stuff with no porting on the heads or intake. I am running a C6 with the wide ratio planetary gear set and a reverse manual valve body with no brake and a TCI Super Street fighter converter. I am also using a Gear Vendors overdrive with a 3.70 rear gear. All pretty basic stuff.

Alan,

I’m guessing you are aware but I’ll mention it anyway… there’s some easy things to do to your SCJ heads to pick up a few tenths if and when you freshen the heads. They benefit greatly from back cutting the intake valve and chamber/bowl blending… it’s crazy how much low lift flow the heads will pickup with those two items done… glad you are having fun at rmrw… I want to do that event some year.

Probably talking about Midwest cylinder head. Used them before with good results but they didn’t want to touch the head I sent to David dove. Maybe I should send the other boggered up one I have to Midwest and see if they will do anything with it for me

Looking for a single high riser head to mate with the one I have… long story short I sent the mating head I had to David Dove, it was in tough shape but he said he could get it welded… that was two years ago and I haven’t been able to get a hold of him for the past year.. last summer my brother bought a single high riser head at the Jefferson swap meet that was full of silver paint… looked like a decent casting that had some port work. Which was no big deal because the one head I still have has been ported also. Anyway, he buys it for me and I send it off the machine shop… we’ll come to find out the vendor at the swap was a swindler and the paint was .060 thick and that was hiding a bunch of shotty repair work in the chambers and one intake port, and the head leaks like wicker basket carrying water.

So if anybody doesn’t want to screw me over on another high riser head, I’d really appreciate any help on a good head preferably one that will hold water or can be repaired. Doesn’t have to be perfect just useable or fixable. Sorry for the short novel. Praying the third times the charm.

Hello, do you still have the aluminum center section available and do you have the pinion support that matches it? Thanks
