GT350s used a "DSO C8ZX" axle assembly specifically for them. 9" 31 spline , N case , Daytona retainer. Usually open , not traction lock.

Yeah my 68 J-code 4 spd. mustang didn't even have a 9 inch.

Must have been a non-GT J-code?  Not an expert on 68s, but as I understand, J-code GT got 9 inch and front disks, non-GT got drums and 8 inch.

J-codes are good running stock 302s, hope to be doing one here shortly.  Last one was an overachiever with only mild changes
Mine is a non GT but had front disc brakes, the little 302 was just that, someone had swapped in a Crane fireball cam and a set of headers and that thing surprised me at how strong it was when you got the rpm's up.

I've twisted 2 sets of Moser 31 spline axles in the same manner as your stock one here. 3200 lb stick shift 393w small block 68 Fastback street car 11.48 @119.5. Put the 33s and a spool in it as the Moser warranty doesn't apply to 28 and 31 spline axles. I then pulled the 33s out to fix an axle bearing a few years ago and the 33 was twisted too. Called Moser for warranty and they said they wont replace it until its twisted a full spline. I tried to explain to them that this was a stick car and if it gets that bad it'll just snap but they wouldn't hear it. So I dont buy Mosers anymore. Strange is the way to go. Moser cuts their splines after hardening. You can see it when you get them. Strange cuts splines and then hardens, much better axle for like 20 dollars more.

That is great info Chris. I thought I would be ahead of the game with the Mosers. Now it looks like I will have to check them after some number of passes if I end up getting a good bite. I would have spent more for the Strange axles if I had known.
We’re both sides twisted?
Thanks!

My Fairmont has had Strange axles for 35 years now. 33 spline back when it was an automatic with transbrake, but when I put the Jerico 4 speed behind the 428,21 years ago, I went up to 35 spline, because the 33s were showing a bit of spline twist. That said, when I built my 85 Mustang 302 stickshift Stock Eliminator car, I found a new set of 31 spline Moser axles advertised locally, so I used those in the 8.8 rearend. I broke a couple of ring and pinions, and twisted the housing, but never hurt the axles. Even when I stopped racing in Stock, and put in the 331 SBF for 4 seasons, which ran low 10s, dropping the clutch at 6600, mid 1.3 60 foots, I never hurt those 31 spline Moser axles. I have 31 spline Dutchman axles in my 59, and I have been happy with all 3 brands of axles that I have used. Mark Williams are generally regarded as the highest quality axles, but I have no complaints with any of the brands that I have used.
