1969 Highboy Crew Cab build
« on: February 27, 2021, 07:38:06 AM »
I am in the middle of doing a Resto-Mod on my 69 Crewcab Highboy. I have posted full build progress on a different site. Since it will be running FE power figured I would put a few pictures up here also.
This picture is from before the frame off, while it was still running a 429 with DOVE heads
I drove the truck for a while like this while trying to decide which direction I wanted to go with the build. At first I had planned on putting the body on a 2015 F-350 with a 6.7 frame and running gear. After some research and receiving a Marti report I started thinking about trying to keep it a little more stock or  at least completely changing the running gear. The Marti report says that in 1969 there were only 524 Crewcab 4x4 truck produced !!  Mine had factory air as well.
So  what to do ??   I am spoiled by the vast amounts of torque that my diesel Fords have, so knew I needed a torque motor. More stroke generally equal more torque so I decided to build a 428CJ. After looking for a long time I found one. During the hunt my build plans had morphed into something much more than a stock 428 CJ.  I had decided that is some stroke was good that more would be better!!! More stroke might need better heads?  Better heads might need better manifold? And who wants a carburetor when you can have fuel injection?
The plan became 428 CJ block with a C scratch with Scat 4.25 crank ported Edelbrock heads and ported Edelbrock EFI manifold.
Unfortunately the plans of mice and men can get changed or derailed.

Really jealous of that bump side crew.
My dream truck.
I’m also in the middle of making my own problems with a CJ build.

It is my dream truck also. I have had several bumps over the years but never a crew 4x4.
As for my 428CJ plans those got derailed completely and I will at some point be selling my CJ engine. Sometimes enough is just not quite enough!!! I ended up purchasing a full race built 496 inch Genesis motor with most of the parts on it that I wanted for the 428 with the benefit of more cubic inches and cross bolted mains. When buying the motor I knew that for my application I would be rebuilding it and de-tuning it.
I am currently building the motor and am about to order rocker stand shims and my pushrods which are the last pieces of the puzzle.
505 Genesis block    4.25 forged scat crank   6.7 Oliver rods   9.7 to 1 Racetek pistons   BBM heads and Edelbrock port injection manifold ported and flowed by JDC    FE Power adjustable timing chain and cover   Hydraulic roller cam and lifters from Brent based on my build and flow numbers   Should make decent HP but more importantly massive torque !
While I am working on the motor the cab is at the paint shop on a rotisserie
The entire build is posted on    ford-trucks.com        the build thread is "1969 Crewcab 4x4 build"   if you want to see the build from the beginning

Just took a quick scan through your thread. I’ll read it later.
I’m an old FTE’r, it was fun to go back.
