I was just looking at the TKX today, looks like they took a 600 and made the case smaller.  Slight differences in gear ratios too.  Looks neat

The Tremec page has a lot more information, a lot more gear ratios are available than what’s advertised.  A lot smaller footprint, lot more rpm capabilities.

A lot of the issues there were because of manufacturing tolerances between the gear cones and the synchronizers.  If you take them apart and correct the surface finish, as well as adjust the thrust clearances, they will normally zing right on up. 

Tremec is advertising these to be 7500-8000 rpm capable, so I think that they're trying to make up for lost ground.

I saw that today on my FB feed, pretty cool for them to make that revision.  Would have been nice to not have to cut the floor in my car to make it fit, wasn't a huge job but always nice to keep the original where possible.  Looks like they took the square "shoulders" off the top of the case exactly where mine hit.  I don't have enough cam to hit an RPM where my TKO shifts balky, but have heard plenty of feedback about it being an issue @ 6500.

If I remember correctly, you mentioned in the past that you could do things to the TKO to reliably increase their torque capacity beyond the factory rating of 600 lb ft.  Please refresh my memory as to how much.

With your knowledge of the TKX, do you believe it's torque capacity could also be reliably increased?  Presumably, neither would approach the 700 lb ft capacity of the Tremec Magnum though, would they?

Normally 10-15% in addition to factory torque rating.  That’s with cryogenically treating the parts and some REM polishing.

Any idea how these torque ratings are determined? I would have to think that 400 ft-lbs of torque launching at 5000 RPM on slicks would stress a transmission more than rolling on the throttle at, say 3000 RPM at 30 MPH with street tires, with 600 ft-lbs.Anybody know what a small shaft as well as a big shaft Toploader 4 speed would be rated at? I have talked to a few people with various Tremec 5 & 6 speed transmissions that said they did not like to be shifted at WOT power shifts, even at only 5500-6000 RPM. Has that been adressed? I would consider swapping the wide ratio Toploader in my 59 some modern style OD transmission, but not really interested if you have baby it.
