EMC hp guess version 3
« on: September 26, 2019, 02:06:16 PM »
Mine is .575 lift also, after lash.  Same rules as Joe and Barry.  Mine is a .046 overbore 390, 3.79 stroke, and I used C4AE-G heads.  Works out to right at 400 cubes.  (mbrunson you can't guess in this game!)

575, same as the cam lift.

I was going to guess the same, maybe even 580, but, even though I've attended the EMC event a few times, I don't know how much the "average HP/TQ" rule will affect his peak numbers in competition trim. I'm still going to guess 565 peak HP, just because. If it wasn't an "average" competition, I'd be guessing 580+....with OEM iron.

Hard to guess without knowing intake, and carburetion, and camshaft specs.  The 10.5:1 compression and passenger car headers, oil pan, and belt driven water pump are all players in the final numbers.  Good luck.  Joe-JDC

I have some interest in this one since it is similar to a stock eliminator build except with more lift, larger valves, porting and a larger carb.
Since I know Blair can build a 1.00sec under (or better) 390 I looked up the F/SA and E/SA index at 1.00sec under and using a Wallace calculator at a 67 Fairlane weight a run that fast would require about 547 flywheel HP +-.  So if I add for the porting and cam lift +30hp, a little larger valve +15hp, and larger carb +10hp my wild ass guess is 602hp.

By the way are we guessing peak or average?  602hp is peak.

I thought about it some more and I think CJShaker is right regarding moving the peak down to pick up a better average over the 3000 rpm range for scoring. So with the peak moved down I’m revising my number -20 to 582hp.

Did Mike win this contest? I think the EMC 390 engine was the grand prize?

Hey Tom, I think that may be Fake News!  Mr. Mike did have the close number..........I think the best I can do is give him a bit of a discount on a project we are involved in. ;D

Sorry guys I couldn’t figure out how to delete the empty post above.

I wanted to say I would take that 390 , but I don’t think it would pass tech!
i’m Working on a 428 stock eliminator build and Blair is supplying me with parts and lots of invaluable advice.
