I've got motor manuals from 1932 through 1988.  Someday intend to compile that into an online database.  Especially the 1960-1974 stuff.  Lotsa work though.  Just posting page shots of copyrighted material could be iffy IMHO.

So it looks like Motors does NOT show the SOHC, but Rotunda DOES show the SOHC?

Of course Motors shows the 1968 R-code 427 so who knows what info they got.

I looked in my 1967 Ford Shop Manuals, no reference to SOHC in there.
Those same shop manuals show the 324-324 cam in all 427's, 4v and 8v, big car and unibody, for 1967.
(Some sources show the smaller 306-306 cam in the 4v or unibody cars, and they all have .500 net lift so the confusion lives on).
They also show the 390GT cam as 270-270 duration (not 270-290) but .481 .490 lift. Hmmm....

I wouldn't worry too much about the copyright thing for what we are doing here, there is an exception for research & academic purposes which I think is what we are doing here. I don't see any of us making money from old SOHC engine codes.

EDIT 27 May:
Ok I thought it was just my shop manuals but I found the SOHC codes. They're in the FRONT of the book, but are not listed in the engine section, maybe because they weren't ever factory in a car?
1965 (1st print Sep 1964)
L=SOHC-4v
M=SOHC-8v
1966
none listed
1967
L=SOHC-4v
D=SOHC-8v
1968
none listed (as if!)

Why did the SOHC get dropped for 1966 but re-appear (in the book at least) in 1967?

I am kind of surprised none of the experts have posted there sources. The 1965 Ford Shop Manual DOES have the M code 2 X 4 SOHC engine listed.

I have seen that also. The new for 65 is different.

The one I looked at waa red and had the M code with all the other engines. How many times were the shop manuals reprinted per year?

I have both 1967 and 68. Neither showed the fabled M code as a 427 SOHC. Did you find any service information for the cammer in your books? None in mine at all. It does cover the 427 though.

Wake up people, you can do better than this.

EDIT 11/22/2019: Found this on another post
It is exactly the M code 427 2x4 SOHC engine I saw in the shop manual.
