...  not shouting at you FElony, you are one of my favorite personalities on this site

In that case, your check is in the mail.

Sounds like you just need to unbolt the whole rear and wheel it out from under the car. I know those years that had a 4-speed without staggered shocks tend to wheel hop in a bad way. It would be no surprise that more than one item is frigged.

You can run up to 31 spline axles with no prob with a center that has 2.89 bearing case. If you have 3.06 bearing case you can go with 33 spline and possibly a 35 spline depending on what kind of diff or spool you run. Most 35 spline and any larger will require a case with 3.25 bearings.

Thank you.  That is what I couldn't quite remember.  I was thinking the 3.06" bearing case was the smallest one.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that a little unfamiliarity with these parts out back is making you a tad gunshy to tackle the job, which is understandable. I might suggest looking for someone, maybe a forum member or whoever nearby, who can assist you with this so it doesn't turn into one of those projects. Or, do what I do, lick the back of a poison toad, grab a wrench and have at it.

i noticed a noise, a clanking noise so i jacked up the rearend and when you spin a wheel back and forth it has alot of play and makes a loud clanking noise.and if you keep spinning a wheel it sounds bad.it has a catch in the same spot every time the wheel spins a complete turn.my stump came out of a 63 galaxie 4.11 gear,390 3 2s,4 speed car and has many, many miles on it.im sure its SHOT.
Probably the spidergear have seized on the pin and
the rollpin split. And the spidergear pin have rotated
in the differential and whore out the hole oval= Differtial

This.  I run 31's in a 9" housing with 2.89 bearings and small housing ends.  The axles take a special o-ring bearing to fit the small ends and seal.  The Strange axles (Mustang) and the Mark Williams (Falcon) are much thicker at the bearing support area than any stock Ford, so well worth the upgrade.

Guys, with the carrier sourced from a '63, is there a chance that is an Equa-Lok?

WBT-CA is the centersection from a ‘63-‘64 full size Ford, 9” with 4.11 gears. Conventional non-locking 4 pinion differential, with the 3.06” differential bearing. “3LD” is the date code ( Year/Month/Week ). “155” is the axle plant code.
