Good Deal
« on: January 24, 2019, 02:15:23 PM »
Just a heads up on amazon valvoline VR1 is 12.65 for 20/50 and a few cents less for 10/30. Now thats for a case of 6. Lets say I run Brad Penn 10/40 for the last 2 years and all has been good. Do you think I can switch over to valvoline 10/30 without me getting all nervous and jerky.

Yes.  I think you can switch to the Valvoline VR1 10W30.   It wouldn't bother me a bit.

I wouldn't change if you're running a flat tappet engine. The roller engines seem to be okay with the multi-viscosity oils. I started using the Kendall AKA Brad Penn in the 80's. I ran it in a turbo vehicle before turbo specifics came to be. It held up much better than Castrol ever did.  Despite the fact its 9.00 a quart for the break in, I feel safe with it and it's protection properties.

LOL - then I go looking for 30wt VR1, which is what I run.  "MDR Tuning" wants $19.  Per quart.

19.00 a quart? Does that come with complementary Vaseline? Amazon has a case of 6 10-30 for 23.99.

Thanks, Stangman. Also got 4 before the $12.11 went away. Now if they'd just run the SAE 60 that way.

Yep - I looked twice, it was $19/quart.  I can run the 10w-30 but right now I have a shelf of 30wt.  Went to the local O'Reillys and the manager lady cut me some discount on a mass order of 3 cases.

Chris: I am in the DFW area. The old parts houses here have gone the way of the DODO bird. Kind of sad.

X2 thanks Stangman.

I ordered 5 cases of the 10W30 last night and was thinking today that it was to good of a price to be true so I just checked and found it is now $23.99 but is temporarily out of stock. It is shown as”1 quart (case of 6)”, which is the same description as the yesterday when it was $12.11.  Actually the $23.99 is way less than what I can buy it for locally.  In today's listing it also shows 1 quart at $12.90......,  modern marketing at its best LOL

I did get an order confirmation email with a delivery date of of February 8-22 so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

No Valvoline pictured in this story, but...yeah, wow. I just read a story about fake caviar from Russia last week.
Now I honestly wonder if I could tell the difference visually. On the oil. The oil.

Rat really raised some hackles when he was presenting his results and his theories.. He ranked oils by film strength and some of the old standbys sucked, which people could not accept.. Except all they could offer to refute the findings was anecdotal..  He backed it up with some GM data that said ZDDP was not the end all to flat tappet cam survival.  Rat postulated that it is the anti friction and wear package that makes a difference, not ZDDP content.  For a lark I sent him some Fleet Farm 20-50 race oil which costs $2.50 a quart to test..  It was in the upper half of the dozens of oils he tested.. Oils are like religion and politics. Best not to discuss because nobody wants to change their mind or be told they are wrong.
