19 teeth on that pinion?  Is that Felony's 2.47 pinion gear?  If so, his '72 Gran Sport must be the size of a star ship and his 521 must be measured in cubic feet!

While you were taking drugs first thing in the morning (not that there's anything wrong with that), I was being nagged by the Ghost of Parts Purchases Past about my speedometer info. So I dragged it out of the vault to verify. Yep, drug abuse can skew memory. Who knew? This a 140-mph police unit stamped "Calibration Certified" in the face, with a Dec 20, '72 date stamp on back. Also a "J"; maybe a revision or assembly code number. It is not NOS, showing 50,583 miles. I'm sure I have another speedo that is NOS in the vault, but it is not this model.

Both the '72 N-code 429 Torino GS and the '73 N-code Montego GT have 2.79 gears from the factory. The '79 Ranchero GT really does have 2.47's, people. Please check the bottom of the first column here:  https://www.supermotors.net/registry/media/419687_1  Note also that there is a 2.26 ratio option (G-code). That should feed you pinion strokers for days to come.

We've all seen these "street race" videos that are actually highway blasts from a 60 mph roll. I gotta imagine how a 500+ incher with these type of ratios would stack up in that scenario. Anyone here have a freeway flyer?

Well, I suppose this would be cheating but my 63 Galaxie with 3.00 gear and .64 OD TKO 600 should do about 219 at 5200 RPM according to the TREMEC “Tool Box” calculator. FElony would have to share a pretty large dose of his drug stash before I would have the courage to validate that.  Probably need medium dose just to try 4th gear.

I have kind of grown to like the 2000 RPM at 80 and the occasional 18 MPG. Dropping it down a gear, or two, still makes it fun to drive on the street.

OH come on. Give it up for the team. I mean, forum. Tremec doesn't account for the '63 having the aerodynamic drag of the Hoover Dam. You should be plenty safe at 180. Just make sure you stream the video during just in case, well, you get a flat at 175.

Just so you know;  I take a shot of JD Black before I read your response to any of my posts.  Just to steel my nerves.  So thanks for taking it easy on me.  …..please don't post 10 times in quick succession...….a man's got to know his limitations.

I think 2.26:1 is 43 ring teeth with 19 pinion teeth?

I had never heard of that one.

I owned a 79 Mercury Zephyr(302 auto), that came with 2.26 gears, and several others with 2.47s, but they had the 7 1/2" diff. I have seen 2.47s for a 9 inch in Lincoln Versailles, but never 2.26s. Obviously not a "Drag Pack" option!
