I have a problem. I have a "thing" for ring and pinions.
I have a 3.00, 3.07, 3.13, 3.15, 3.25, 3.33, 3.64, 3.75, 3.82, 3.89, 4.11, 4.22, and 4.33 gears.
I am fascinated by them in perhaps an unhealthy way? I like having the perfect gear ratio for starters. Second, I am fascinated by the differences in them. The ones with more teeth have straighter gears which I think are more efficient. And the pinion is especially affected by this. The pinions with fewer teeth have a large "swirl" to them as the fewer teeth still have to encompass 360 degrees. I think that makes them less efficient? And the pinion itself is physically smaller which has to affect strength at some point.
My 3.13 gear has 47 teeth on the ring and 15 teeth on the pinion. My best one in that respect.
My worst might be my 3.89 gear with 35 teeth on the ring and 9 on the pinion. Numerically higher ratios get even worse. Some only have 6 or 7 teeth on the pinion.
Can anybody help me?
