Gas tanks
« on: November 15, 2018, 05:47:25 AM »
Any one who knows, whats the difference stationwagon/ not stationwagon
gastanks on 64 Galaxie. What i can see on the pictures its only the filler tube.
Easy to replace if the rest is the same, the stw tank is so much cheaper so worth
the job

Big giant huge difference. A Cadillac or even Mercedes or B-29 Superfort gas tank would have a closer chance of fitting the wagon than a car gas tank.
Not easy to find.

Found both new at several sources like rock auto and autozone
Not the superfortres thank though ;D
Statiowagon tank is half or 1/3 the price of the car tank
STW 103$, Car 262$ at rockauto  (atleast double that before i have
it home in Sweden)  same 30x30x7 size so i thougt
i could save a few bucks by soldering my filler tube to the new one
but probably not then  :(

I don’t have any first hand knowledge on that one, but looking at the diagram in the Ford Parts book the shape of the station wagon gas tank seems to be different, along with the location of the filler neck.

Here is a wagon tank from my '62.  I'd be surprised if they were different than a '64.

I'd grab one for sure at that $103 price that's a bargain. Glad you found one!

Check the Auto City Classic website. They are in Minnesota, and sell a large selection of gas tanks for old cars. I bought a brand new gas tank, mounting straps, and sending unit from them, for my 59 2 door sedan, great prices too!

If you are creative the tank from a 90's rear wheel drive Chev Caprice is a similiar size, plastic with a built in fuel pump. There are a lot of cars with similar shape strap in tanks with a center rear filler. Check the wrecking yards

Parts Geek have same pic $121. Look at the reviews. A couple of guys used them in Mercury sedans and said they fit perfect. So maybe ok for Galaxie sedan.

Tom P the wrecking yards here in Sweden have few suitabel candidates
mostly small japanese and european cars. I have only seen 2 90s Caprices
in my life i dont think they was sold here new. I have a 66 fairlane tank
somwhere that i think can be close....Rory i check that Auto City classic out
and se what they got.

Stubbie i checked the reviews and yes fits perfect on marauder sedan hmmm nice.
Read the review for a 63 tank, yes this waterpump fitted my 95 dodge perfect :o
I don't dare to trust those reviews
Auto City Classics could not ship that size to Sweden
But....Amazon had that tank. I can pay the shipping and custom fees to Amazon
so i don't need to have anything to do with the bloodsucking vampires
at the Swedish customs and post office. 420$ :'( at my door but then i have a new
stock tank thin/lead plated.
But with my luck i bet i get one for an AMC Pacer  :(

Heo, if you're replacing the original tank save the lock ring that holds the sender in place.  When I got the new tank for my Fairlane it came with a new lock ring but it was of thinner material and didn't seem to fit as well.  I tried to use it and made sure the gasket ring was seated but when I got the sender installed and starting filling the tank it leaked.  So I took it back apart and used the old lock ring, and no leaks!
