After years of hard work Hemi Joel finally got his '31 Plymouth Coupe to the track to test tonight in preparation for Drag Week 2018! And with a week to spare before Joel & Jeff leave for Atlanta lol. Joel had hoped to be ready to test at Rock Falls Raceway in Wisconsin on a couple recent weekends, but there were too many things to finish, and those opportunities passed. Brainerd International Raceway runs a Wednesday night Street Drags program periodically over the summer, mostly a grudge race and time trial type event for licensed vehicles, and last night was one of the last chances to get some runs before Drag Week. Joel's Trunk Monkey Jeff and I meet Joel at his house Wednesday afternoon and packed up some tools and loaded up the coupe. We had a perfect day, with temps in the low 70's, and clear sky's. Brainerd Raceway opens the gates at 4pm, and then starts tech inspection and lining up cars in staging, and starts running cars down the track at 5pm, running until sundown, which was about 8:30pm. The track announcer told everyone that they had a record turnout for a Wednesday night Street Drag event at over 160 cars, so unfortunately we were limited on time runs. We're not going to post any ET results here ( sorry ), so as not to tip off any of his Drag Week competitors that might be watching, but Joel was able to get 3 relatively mild passes in, which helped in getting comfortable with the car. He's got a few issues to address that cropped up, along with a bunch of things that are still on the to-do list, but right now things look good for making Drag Week. Joel will be pretty busy over the next week to finish getting ready, so I don't know if he will have a chance to comment here, but maybe. Meanwhile, here's a few pictures from tonight.

At last, my former trunk monkey looks like he will make Drag Week with something other than a parade car!  Good luck to Joel and Jeff.

Joel is running the "Hot Rod" class, for 1928-1948 American cars in the traditional '50's hot rod style. Pre 1968 engine families, and no EFI. Plus a few more rules of course. Hot Rod class cars also not to be "Gasser" style - there's a separate Gasser class.

Very cool Jay and Kevin as I do hope he does well.

But, I do have one question!

Where do I ship a couple of spray cans of Rustoleum spray primer to make that ride look presentable?

LOL!  ;D ;D ;D

Wow, a week before the event?!! He's going to ruin your guys' reputation for last second thrashes..lol
Glad to see he'll make it this year. Shouldn't have any problem spotting his car. I was going to take some guess as to whether I'd be able to get in the 15's or be relegated to the 16's, but I didn't want to tip off any of the guys in Big Block NA either ;D ;D

Very cool ride!  Not sure it will be cool in temp (or comfortable) but you will certainly get an iron butt award for the week!

Awesome car and good luck

My experience says those are more than potential leaks.. Maybe instead of pump and regulator trying to get down to 2lb fuel pressure he could rig gravity feed.

Just kidding .... Go get'em Joel.

Only needs one thing to be perfect. The inside of the carb scoops need to be painted red. That's it. Awesome car.
