Lotta folks like these 660's.

To be honest, I'm not really sure why.  I've played around with them a bunch, and sure, for a race car they seem like they'd do just fine.

For a car that sees the street, well, they lack a power valve.  So in order to run right, they need to be jetted for WOT.  This makes anything else involving the mains not work well.

I mean, I can water my garden with a fire hose, but it sure makes more sense to use something that works a little better for the intended purpose.

As Battlestar said, Holley's like a rebuild every few years especially if the gaskets dry out a lot.
I would gently push back on this - with the good blue gaskets, should not be a problem.  I have a go-to 650DP that hasn't been open in years, runs right on everything from a 302 to the 393C on the dragster.

The AFB carbs will give away a couple tenths to Holleys but so what - main thing is get it running and enjoyable.
This would be application specific if anything and not necessarily expected results.  Switching back and forth from a 650DP to twin Ed 600s (1406 models) on the 302 - zero difference in MPH on the track, meaning they make the exact same power.  You can lose a tenth on the 60' when the track is 157F like it was Saturday.  I'm looking forward to testing both twin Eds and twin 1850s on the 351C in the Falcon.  The hold up is "other things" and the fact that my wife says "I don't want to have to look around that thing to see the tree."

So much good stuff in this thread. Should have a “sticky” for it. Do we have stickies?
Do I know what a sticky is,lol?
Really though, just great knowledge being shared.

660 vs. the 650....I assume the extra 10 cfm rating was due to no choke.

660's have a 600cfm venturi and a 172 butterfly.

Actually, if you review the details on the list numbers tossed around, I think a pair of 650DP units would be about the same as a pair of 660s and a step up from a pair of 600 vacuum or weighted air vane somethings.  Unlike the 660s, the 650s have progressive openings and the same primary venturi diameter as the 660s, and 600s.

Also, the Ed AVS carbs have the capability of tuning the secondary opening, so that experimental option is available.
