2018 Mustang GT seems to be "balls out-bad ass"
« on: March 17, 2018, 10:35:15 PM »
Jiminy.  Those things run low 12's and can sneak into the high 11's at 117-119 mph on track surfaces on street tires.

I'm not into new cars at all, but that's pretty gnarly.

Anybody here have one of those?

Over on the YB, some of the mullett boys are having great fun showing a Kia Stinger outrunning a new Mustang GT. (?) Butthurt will never cease.

I don't think this totally representative, good track surface, perfect launch, etc.  But still.....   Pretty dang cool and it sounds great as it zings to 7000 rpm.  It still won't keep up with my Cougar, but it's really cool for a stock factory car.

The conundrum is how they got the Mustang to turn a 13.3 ? As usual no one knows , maybe 87 octane, maybe 89. That is a full second off what a new one runs with 93 octane gas.

Yeah, I don't know what the Kia Stinger thing has to do with anything.  I'd like to get a new GT put some gears and headers in it and have fun.  It'd have a 10 speed auto too, I think.  For a new car that is friggin' cool.

Didn't say what year Mustang but 6 speed, and the Stinger has twin turbos.  It was supposedly an Australian magazine and claimed the drivers had a huge impact on the outcome.  Here in USA, one new GT with 10 speed auto was picked up at Ford factory, and was driven to Florida, and after a cool down driven onto the track and clicked off an 11.98 et and after another cool down ran even quicker.  No special tires, no rear gear changes, completely stock.  So who are we to believe?  Joe-JDC

The Mustang used against the Kia was a 2017 and had right hand drive. The revisions to the exhaust for the right hand drive kill about 20hp. So it wasn't the new 2018 with 460 hp. I can tell you from personal experience the new Mustangs are a blast to drive expecially the GT350 version.

The '018 can't be compared to the last years one. Direct Injection and more compression ups the power a bunch. The 10 speed slushbox is faster that the stick (sad state of affairs there!) because it has a very deep first gear and the car will plant the tires hard and stays planted because it isn't harsh drop to the next gear.

Even the F150 with 5.0 picks up a bunch in '018 from last year.

Now don't roast me  ;) but....my new 2018 Audi S5 with AWD is a rocketship as well:

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 4.3 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 10.9 sec
Zero to 140 mph: 25.4 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 5.6 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 2.8 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 3.5 sec
Standing ΒΌ-mile: 12.9 sec @ 107 mph
Top speed (gov ltd, mfr's claim): 155 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 150 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.94 g

I'd looked at the new Stang but RWD in snow/ice here in the Midwest made that and a few other cars not really practical as a long-distance (think: FL) driver. It's still amazing that today we have so many choices of really fast cars that put to shame our old 60's-70's muscle cars. My heavily-modded '70 Mach I will keep up with it but if was it still in OEM form the Audi would blow it away!

I did 5.0 earlier this year, wasn't the newest version, but still a strong runner

Stock internals, switched to a Ford Racing intake manifold, bigger TB, cold air kit, aftermarket exhaust, long tube headers and an ECM tune.  That little car ran good, but downright screamed with the changes  I went back and forth with the programmers on cam timing and we got that thing gentle part throttle and a beast to 6500+.  That's a hell of a motor

I have a buddy with an earlier blown Saleen that they swapped in a blown 5.0 Aluminator and every part that they could possibly throw at it.  He needs to get the ECM worked out, almost undrivable now with jumpy throttle response, but it's likely an 800+ hp motor.

Pretty cool stuff.  If I wasn't such a cheapskate, I'd put one in the Mustang LOL

This couldn't be any truer. Heck, most SUV's today would keep up with my '09 GT, or pull away from it. But then again the prices reflect that technology. Who the hell wants a house payment for a darn car or truck? I can't afford that stuff.

I just special ordered and received a 2018 F150 4X4 regular cab, short box with the 395 hp 5.0, 10 speed automatic, and 3.73 gears.
It gets 22 mpg highway, 20 mpg 50/50 city/highway on 87 octane. It gets up and goes.
It's 11.0 compression and with the direct injection will run through the mountains on 87 octane.
Not sure how I'm going to like the aluminum body. Also the 2018's have auto start that I don't like and shut off every time I drive it.
The other thing I'm not crazy about is the electronic locking axles. I would prefer to have the trac-loc like my old one. This one says don't lock in on dry pavement.
I would imagine part of that warning is for turning with locked axles.
I don't hot rod it but it would be nice to have a posi when taking off with some enthusiasm.
This thing has an amazing small turning circle that I do like.

I didn't save it, but there is a YouTube video showing how to pull the switch out of the dash and connect 2 wires together to short the circuit, permanently bypassing this "feature". Search YT or check the FTE.

Thanks. Yea, I found it, might be something to try. I did buy a trailer hitch tester for $5 and that defeats it but it also shuts off my rear camera.
Rear cameras are standard now on 2018's.
