Cleanup winter project
« on: December 04, 2017, 03:11:28 PM »
My plans for this winter is to clean up the engine bay and rebuild the front end.

First i needed a load of birch wood so i get warm an cosy in the shop

My stock brake booster decided breakdown two hours before tecinspection some years ago so
made some brackets for the first booster i found in the barn from a Volvo 140, It worked fine.
But this summer when i got it running it had some issues. Really heavy pedal at first then boom
full boost. Well it was used when i found it so thought i mount another booster, well i had a Volvo
740 i got for a couple of years ago to take the overdrive for my Model A. My son had been driving it
since i got it but now it did not pass tec  to rusted out. The booster on that was dual diaphragm and
looked more like the stock booster, same BP for master cyl

I had to pinch the fork At the end in the wise and make a adapter between the booster and the bracket for the
factory booster
m

It was a Little hard to hold the booster with one hand and meassure so i made a test piece to see i had
the booster in the right place

I could not find my 60 mm hole saw so i started to install the MSD box and a duraspark distributor
i got from Drew Pojedinec then the dishwasher died, the computer died ::).But i have a 54 chevy
truck cab i had for ...30 years, tried to sell it for ten years no takers, just tire kickers although it have
no tires ;D
A guy call and want to buy it i doubled the previous price and yes he want it he want to pay
half the money down and the rest when he come and get it the next week. Some well needed play money for me :)
I   told him to pay when he come and get it and set a date.....not a word from him until a couple a days ago
when he call me ...he is at rehab and don't know when they let him out  :o so no playmoney there
Well i continued to clean up the wire harness and build a new harness for the MSD and when i came in last night from
the shop the washing machine had died :o ::) This car is possessed as soon as i start working on it the rest of the
world falls apart

Anyone outthere that have a sticker like that for sale?

Think it'll pass tech with no exhaust? ;D

Sounds good and strong, Heo. Do you think you'll have it all back together for driving this Summer?
Looks like another FE block sitting on a table in the background.

Yes ;D ;D  in the car with 2 big Mercedes Mufflers it is to quiet but now teched for the last time ;D
So im going 2.5 inch with some straight through mufflers.

The plans was big for the winter but  ::)....i have the wire harnes taken care of , the MSD
conected , im buildin a new bracket for the brake booster ...started on that adapter for the
booster but naaahhh i build new from the firewall. Winter is almost over so i finish the booster
bracket, build a new exhaust, recore the radiator and leave the rest to next winter
Better to drive with a uggly engine bay than have it torn down another summer

Yes thats the block for my stroker build on the table

Fabbed a Bracket for the new Booster and testfitted it.

Cleaned up the wireharnes ,used this braided "stocking"or what i shall call it. Liberated x meters
when i worked for the airforce. One nice thing with it it expands so much so easy to pull it over terminals
and if you need to take out a wire to you just poke with a nail or something between the threads
and you get an opening. I put shrinkhose over one end and pull it tight around the wires and then
shrinkhose over the other end. We had some stainless end clamps at the airforce but didn't liberated those

When i scrap a car i allways save the wireharnes they are a god source for fittings and multi coloured
wires. Red, Blue,Black,Yellow is easy to buy anywhere but say Red with a White stripe is impossible
around here
I used this fittings from a Volvo 240 to connect the distributor and the MSD

So now its plug and play :D

Have been down with flu for the last 3 weeks or so, forced my
self out in the shop today and mounted the brake booster and
MC. Crimped the last connectors and plugged in the MSD
and fired it up, it fired right up as soon as there was gas in carb
So now i have to start on the exhaust system, me and my father
bought a lift so now i don't have to crawl on the floor....to old and stiff
for that  nowadays ::)
