Weird white powder....
« on: May 11, 2017, 04:30:28 PM »
has formed on my gold cadmium plated Canton oil pan. Seems some of the cad plating has lifted as well. I can steel wool it off down to bare metal but will that anti-rust stuff one slaps on iron and steel be the right stuff to prevent more corrosion?

Scrape as much as you can off and sell it on the street corner. Then purchase new pan. ::)

Here in SE Tx my Canton pan had the white stuff in under a year's time.  The only cure IMO is to primer and paint, or powder coat it.  But of course it needs to be off the car   ;)
For my newest build, I'm going to go ahead and paint it first.

Functionally, they are good pans.

Aesthetically, they all look like junk within a year's time.

I prefer Milodon pans if you like the zinc/dichromate/gold looking finish.   They last a lot longer.

Thanks fellas. This issue took a while to surface. I don't intend to take the pan off. So, I'll scrape it in place and slap some paint on it.
