I believe you need the later model pump , i did a unisteer power rack conversion on my 69 , if i remember there are different pressure s involved .. Bud

Thanks....I will have to do more research as I have had both answers now..I was under the impression that there was different pressures involved as you said....

If you look in the right place (Speedway hot-rod catalog perhaps) there are valves that can be used to cut down on over-pressure to make power steering work better.

So...the early pumps make too much pressure for the rack ???

IF your pump (how should I know?---I don't know how much your rack uses) makes more pressure than you need, the above method is an alternative to changing the pump. Glad I could be of help!

I'm getting close to being in this area also. I haven't done to much research yet but I do know that Flaming River specifies low pressure pumps for their power racks. Sorry I don't have more.

Thanks..all info is good.I would really like to keep the stock pump look...I have generally stayed far away from early Mustang power steering stuff..
I have a power rack in the 68 but I bought all the stuff (pump included) from AGR Steering.I made my own mounting brackets and remote reservoir tank..

If the stock pump is to high a pressure as CammerFE says I can cut the pressure down...
More research..
Thanks

I bought a power steering kit from the defunct "Wurth-it Designs" and it uses a GM rack from a Chevy Citation.  No pump included with the kit.  I also wanted to keep the original look for my '60 Starliner so I used a '60 power steering pump and had lines made.  My Starliner originally wasn't built with power steering.  It works with no problem, except at full lock it squeals.  Maybe that's because of the pressure being too high?

Im not really sure what the difference would be , i just used the pump they sent with the rack , there instructions said not to use a factory pump . I actually like the look of the later model pump , But i do know that the way the car steers and drives is night and day difference .. you will like the rack .. Bud
