Cam thrust plate with new COMP CAM
« on: September 08, 2016, 06:56:44 AM »
Hi again,

Another dumb question I cant help but ask!
The OEM cam thrust plate set up seemed to have a slotted thrust washer between the front face of the cam and the factory thrust plate. (see image).
PN 6265.

But when I look at most modern day cam installs on the web etc, that little thrust washer seems to have been left out.
Is this correct? Do the aftermarket cams all have a thicker front face that eliminates the need for that?
So you only have the thrust plate against the rotating cam's front face? (with some lube in-between I guess!)

As an aside I see COMP CAMS sells a 4 hole mounted thrust plate kit, with various thicknesses of thrust washers.
Looks a big deal. But I doubt my 380 HP cruiser needs that. If the steel plate was good enough for a CJ428 then it'll do me...

Simple question, so apologies, but better to ask!

All aftermarket timing sets have the washer built into them - just discard it - or keep it as a collectors item.
