I'm not sure of the lengths needed right off hand, but I'd want them to go into the block as far as possible, without bottoming out or protruding through the ends of the open holes. There are a couple of different lengths and It wouldn't be hard to throw the bell on and take a measurement using a piece of rod.
But you don't really need chromemoly bolts. Grade 8 would be plenty strong enough for anything you could throw at it. I think stock was grade 5 if I remember correctly.
