Anyone who is within driving distance of Detroit next weekend might want to check this out... Currently there are 30+ Cammers committed to be there.

There will be 25 reserved spots available to Cammer powered cars in a private lot on Woodward Ave. There are other activities being planned for the week before, including private tours and other group events, and a group rate at a local hotel. At Drag Week in 2009 I met up with John Vermeersch in his SOHC Starliner.  Having my SOHC Galaxie and John's Starliner next to each other in the hotel parking lot drew a huge crowd.  Can't imagine what 30 cammers would be like...

- 1964 Ford Galaxie, Drag Week 2009 Winner Modified NA (9.50s @ 143), 585" SOHC

Holy snowballs, I had no idea this was going on. After 30+ inches of rain the first 3 spring/summer months this year, I'm so far behind on getting stuff done that I feel like I'm working 24/8 just to catch up. Making much time to do anything hasn't been much of an option, but this would be a hard one to pass up.

Sorry, I forgot to post it here. Its been posted a few times on the other forum by myself and John Richmond, and I've put the details on facebook a few times as well. Lets face it, the Cammer world is pretty small and word travels fast. John and Butch had no trouble filling the lot. But its still a great chance for others to get out and see the cars, and a good excuse for a bunch of us to get together.

Butch has shirts being made as well, and I'll be sure to post some for sale after we get back.

Leaving tomorrow morning for the 2500 mile drive with Butch's roadster in tow.

Well we just crossed the Mississippi about an hour ago and should be in Detroit tonight. Yesterday we made a 50 mile detour to go see Brent Hajek's collection, and words cannot describe how awesome it is.

Looking forward to this weeks activities and going for a cruise down Woodward Ave.

Well not to advertise, but it did go on eBay last night. More for fishing and advertising for Saturday, but Butch surely wouldn't mind if someone hit the BIN.

We'll have more pictures of it this week.

Yeah like I said ad is more to get people talking... but you never know when someone is going to fall in love with it and click the buy button.

It is a very nice car though. The engine was an orignial crate engine the builder had in another car with little milage. When he built this car he pulled it and added the blower/injection. These are all original old parts, no new or reproduction pieces. And that is a very rare rear plate blower intake like was run on the TF cars in the 60s. The mandrel bent polished SS exhaust system wasnt cheap either.

Now its not my style, but its a very nice car.

I have some, but its been a month and I still haven't had time to upload them and write my report.... There were a few over at the other forum. The cool thing is we had a professional film crew there and there will be a DVD available in the near future with some great footage and interviews.

Wow, to possibly have an original SOHC test car there. That's pretty cool. Info and individuals who made this engine what it is, it all needs to go down into a book. One day, everyone who played a part in creating and modding the SOHC will have passed on. There is so much story to be told about this engine. I'm one of the very few young guys (25) interested in this engine and some day, more of my generation will probably learn about it. It's funny how as you get older, your taste for very old stuff grows. The nostalgia in you takes over. We live in a world where it is easier than ever to record history, to record stories about some of the best years in motorsports. There will never be a 60's era of racing ever again, for the better and the worst. The 60's has a glorious beauty to it but also, a very bloody shadow. It doesn't matter what type of motorsports you're into, it was dangerous and deadly. I know in Formula 1, as a driver you had a higher chance of dying in a crash than you did of surviving the era. I'm sure this was the same for all forms of motor racing. There was however, a gorgeous ignorance to the era, a whole new frontier to pioneer. The only way to keep this era a part of history that can be passed down, is to record all the wonderful stories. There are also secrets of the era that deserve to be shared.

One of those pics shows a SOHC sitting on a stand with the ultra-rare cast iron exhaust manifolds. Last year, I mentioned that I had visited Garlits' museum in FL and there I saw, in his "Engine Room" the only cast SOHC manifolds I'd ever seen. Now I know at least 2 sets exist.
