Royce B and Barry R Make Engine Masters!
« on: May 26, 2015, 11:10:45 PM »
Our own forum member Royce has been accepted at Engine Masters, with his Lincoln engine.  He'll be going toe to toe with the Y-blocks from Kaase and Mummert, some old poly combustion chamber Mopars, and whatever other old school stuff shows up.  Attaboy Royce!  Let's hear some details on that Lincoln engine!

Also, my Y-block pal JC is first alternate for the class!  He has a good chance of making the show, and is planning on borrowing my Weber carbs for his Y-block effort.  (As a result, he has been very nice to me lately ;D ;D)

I was also told by JC that the LS engine class still has two open spots to fill.  Maybe there's room for an FE in that class  ::)

I wonder if Barry R made it in...

Edit:  Thanks for the update, glad to hear that Barry made it in too.  Barry, anything new for this year?

That's great news for Royce and JC, here's wishing them the best of luck. It's going to make it an interesting class to watch.

Whether it's an FE or not, the more Fords the better! ;D

Thanks for the Kudos guys.

The Lincoln is 383 cubic inches 4.06 x 3.7  It has forged JE pistons 7.1 inch scat rods  Forged stock crank offset ground. 12:1 compression. Roller cam 252/252 .625 lift, Harland Sharp rockers, PAC beehive valve springs, Manley valves. .  Fully ported stock heads that flow 255/205 @.600. The heads are O ringed and use a solid copper gasket.

I have fabbed a spacer which allows me to use any scub (sbc) manifold.  I plan on testing a Mercury Marine Tunnel ram port EFI, a ported Victor JR, A Perfomer RPM, and Hilborn mechanical injection.

A couple of yrs ago on the R&R dyno it made 503 hp @ 6600 and 467 torque at 4900. This was with the Hilborn, but we ran out of time to get the fuel curve really dialed in. I figure there is another 5-8% left in it.  This engine currently resides in my Competition Coupe dragster which runs 9.90s

The Y block Fords will be fighting for the win just due to the superior airflow of the Mummert heads. The Poly motors will be tough competition and the 6th engine is of all things a Packard. Realistically, I would like to beat at least one of the Polys and the Packard.

And yes  Barry did make it in. He is in the Big Block class along with a 385, 2 BBC, a Pontiac, and an AMC

Is the Challenge open to any bystanders? Seeing as how it takes place only 15 miles from me, it would be cool to watch some of the proceedings. Perhaps I could be Barry or Royce's "wrench holder" ;D

Good luck with the Y-block, Royce. Regardless of the turnout, it's cool just to see the older engines in competition.

I am not sure yet how many (team) members are allowed. Usually, observers are discouraged due to space considerations.  I have 2 guys so far that are helping me. If I can get another pass you are welcome to it.. Anyone who likes engines should attend this event at least once.. Plus you get to rub elbows with some of the top builders like Kaase Bischoff and Rabotnick.

Don't feel any pressure, Royce. It would be cool to be there or even help, but I was kidding about an invitation. As for rubbing elbows with Barry, well, we've met and rubbed elbows quite a few times and quite frankly he's just not my type ;D  I've been to his shop several times, and I think my wife has a restraining order to stay at least 1000 yards from it...lol He's a good guy for sure.

Please don't put me up alongside Kaase or Bischoff.  Those guys are sooo much better than I am that its not even funny.  They have kicked my tail so many times that I feel like the practice ball for a soccer team.

They do allow some spectating, but space is limited.  I only bring one or two guys with me - one to tell me not to be stupid and another to pick up the pieces when I do it anyways  :)

I would also be glad to have another helper around if the opportunity presents.  Its gonna be an interesting effort for sure since they just announced the participants and its already nearly June - months later than usual.  Shortens the build time a lot and prevents some custom stuff from happening.

Here's hoping, Barry brings the real street engine back for another kick at the can. ;)

Second that.  It's the only EMC engine I've seen on the stand and then haulin' down the strip.  Looking forward to seeing what can be wrung out of those Y blocks too.

Well, it's certainly going to be more interesting this year than it has been for many years.   I really like the "oddball" or "obsolete" engines.

Good luck Royce and Barry!
