So the deadbeat owner of this Cobra (me) keeps this one moving slowly, buy we are pretty close to an engine on a dyno.
The engine ended up to be a 452 inch hyd roller side oiler. I went with a new SCAT crank given the quality of the other parts, internally balanced, a set of nice light Crower 6.49 rods I had around, a set of new Diamond 6cc flat tops with 1/16, 3/16 ring pack that Doug Garifo had. Right now with the big medium riser chambers, it comes in at zero deck, 9.75:1, but depending how things fit, I may give the heads another cut, we'll see. It's a nice combo, but not a huge power maker.. The cam is a custom 232/240 @.050 with .600 lift, but I rocked it back to 109. Later than I usually run, but a 3.73 geared roller skate should be happy

The short block is together, waiting on the Small F C5AE-F heads. We had capped out around 246 cfm, but seems like my bench is acting wonky, it calibrated correctly, but on a buddy's self calibrating bench they shot up to 290 cfm at .500 and up, which is more like I expected. Game plan is a light intake clean up, back cut to the intake valves, and it does need some exhaust bowl work, but we are very close. (Other than figuring out why our numbers are not matching)
It's going to get a Ford tunnel wedge, repop Carl's Ford carbs, and a restored Duraspark/MSD combo with the "Tasca curve" undecided on rockers, I have some Ersons, some HS, but I may even do a set of stock style 1.73s with end stands and PoP shafts, we'll see. I love the simplicity and this one is being build to be anyone's driver.
One picture you may have seen on my FB page is the oil pan, an otherwise tired looking Canton 15-820. I planned to blast the outside and paint it engine color, but as I looked at it, it had some odd shellac inside and some gold paint on it. To be clear, it did NOT look like the picture below, it was smooth and brown and you could not see any material other than a coat of what was likely epoxy but very nicely done. When I passed a torch over it to see what it was, it was like one of those sponges that grow with a few drops of water. The previous owner patched the inside on a porous oil pan with some sort of cloth mat and epoxy. Artful, and impressive, but not on the inside for one of mine. Not to mention, the heat I hit it with was minor, so not sure it was going to last anyway. Because it's not a cheap pan, in the future I may cut the back 3 inches off of a stock pan if I get bored, but with some odd porosity all over that back area, I just ordered a new one.
More to come, the big boy behind the intake is a hyd roller, ported TFS TW 485. might be able to get them both on the pump on the same day, we'll see how the head build goes and of course the dyno schedule. The look of the 452 will be similar, same valve covers, same wires, but of course iron heads painted black with the Duraspark
