CalTrac rear bracket '66 Fairlane
« on: October 01, 2022, 12:38:32 PM »
19 years ago I made a copy of a popular traction bar. In 2005 I got a call from them and my fingers slapped so let's not focus on that :-)

I picked up a CalTrac set up for a '66 Fairlane minus the round bars and rod ends. That is as far as I know? So today I thought I'll install the real deal. Well I notice my 9" spring perches are too wide for the CalTrac back brackets. The U-bolt side to side dimensions are far off. You can see my brackets I've had on for 19 years and CalTracs. Does the CalTrac kit normally come with a narrow spring perch to weld on? I'm not sure why the CalTrac bracket is so narrow? Thoughts from those who may have a set?

Thanks,

Doug, the rear Caltrac bracket you have there just looks narrow. I can measure mine tomorrow and report back. Normally their parts, if correct for the application, will be bolt on. A new perch to be welded on is not normally necessary.

I bought them at a swap meet. Guy had Falcon/Fairlane marked on the box. After checking Calvert’s site there is a kit for each Falcon and Fairlane. Maybe it’s from a Falcon kit?

I have two sets of CalTracs, for two cars. It’s been quite a few years since I got them, but pretty sure I remember they asked which rear end housing I had in the cars - Stock, swapped, etc., In other words they asked all the pertinent questions, and sent the brackets that applied. No weld on parts needed, it is all ready to bolt together. I don’t know what to tell you, other than the brackets are for an application different than yours.

Yeah, I tried to make a swap meet bargain. Oh well, I've wasted $200 on worse things :-) I guess it's time to just spring for a new kit.

Thanks!

Doug, confirming they are too narrow by at least .500 center to center. Calvert actually sent me a set just like that when I ordered from them. They sent the correct set afterwards but it cost me attending an event. So there is confusion out there regarding sets for our cars.

Thank you Jim. If you are ever under your car and don't mind snapping a picture, I'd appreciate it. I'll email you my phone number if you want to text it for ease.

Let’s do that Doug.

What does the large spacer block do in your system? Is that for lowering?
