Blue Oval in the winner's circle on RMRW 2.0!
« on: September 24, 2021, 12:38:25 AM »
The car who was leading my class broke on the drive today so I am the winner of the BB/NA class.  8) I ran a 10.97@123.8 today with a week long average of 11.06. My car ran flawlessly all week and I never even laid a wrench on it until today when I pulled a little timing out of the motor. It was especially gratifying to win out over class awash with BBCs.  8)

Alan, that is just freakin AWESOME!! Way to go!!

So you pulled timing out and it ran faster? What do you attribute that to, and why the decision to pull timing?

Again, congratulations!! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. :)

Thanks Doug! I am not really sure why it picked up. I pm'ed my buddy who is a 460 guru with my first pass results 11.04@122 and he asked me what my total timing was. I was running about 34 deg and he replied "I was going to tell you to bump it up a little but I only run 28 deg". So I set it at 30 deg and it picked to an 11.01@ 123 even though I lost a little on my 60 ft. So I left it like it was and I picked up a little more on my last pass.
I need to talk to him and have him explain to me how that would work.

Congratulations on winnig your class.not many fords in the event that are ford powerd.same with drag week.as for the timming, that depends on the heads you are running.kaase heads like p51 run best at 28-32 degrees.boss heads like 32,and sr-71 do good at 28.can make a real differance in power.
whats your combo on the engine?

I'm running Ford Racing SCJ heads which are basically and earlier version of Kaase P51 head.

It was kind of funny. They gave awards to the top three in all the classes but I was the only one when they announced my name they also said what car I was running.  8)

It's basically the earlier Ford Racing rotating assembly I bought in pieces. Scat 4.300 crank with stock length Eagle rods and Ford Racing TRW type pistons with 10.5 compression. The heads are out of the box Ford Racing SCJ heads and the cam is a Comp xr292 solid roller. The intake is a Victor with a 1050 Quickfuel 4150 carb. It's all out of the box stuff with no porting on the heads or intake. I am running a C6 with the wide ratio planetary gear set and a reverse manual valve body with no brake and a TCI Super Street fighter converter. I am also using a Gear Vendors overdrive with a 3.70 rear gear. All pretty basic stuff.

Alan,

I’m guessing you are aware but I’ll mention it anyway… there’s some easy things to do to your SCJ heads to pick up a few tenths if and when you freshen the heads. They benefit greatly from back cutting the intake valve and chamber/bowl blending… it’s crazy how much low lift flow the heads will pickup with those two items done… glad you are having fun at rmrw… I want to do that event some year.

Yup, no problem. I was asked what my combination was and was just relaying what I had. Plus I was pointing out that I ran as quick as I did with out of the box parts, no custom machining or cam grinds. I may get some port work done on the heads over the winter or upgrade to either P51 or SR71 Kaase heads. Along with a cui upgrade to 545.
It would be great to see you at one of these events. BB Fords of any type are seriously under represented. Out of 287 cars I was one of only two BBF powered cars at RMRW 2.0. Last year I was the only one. At the 4 DWs I attended it was a little better but still in the single digits.
