Private Classifieds / Got myself a 68 1/2!

Need a few pieces to put a 4-speed in it. (Factory 3.91 auto car but I want a standard)
- Clutch pedals and all associated pieces.
- 24" 3 core radiator and shroud (390 0r 428) A rebuildable core would be good too.
- 4 speed cross member. I'm getting some confusing info on this, some say a C-4 is the same but I've seen notations referencing a big block specific cross member.

For reference purposes what does an equally dressed iron cammer weigh?
I'm going to guess 150 more.

X4 but with one caveat. Make sure that where ever you bolt it to is tight. A loose bolt has leverage that can break the casting.

Something else that can be done is to use the bigger Holley two barrel carbs on the ends. You would have to get the holes enlarged but it apparently works quite well and was done back in the day. I have a tri-power intake as well that I am doing this to. Kinda one them whenever-I-get-to-it deals, the carbs are machined just not assembled.

Thanks Jay, I'm not really out to put up a big number I just don't want to choke it off.
My (further) thoughts are a set of Hooker super-comps, maybe a bit bigger cam like the 306S and have it all done at 6500 RPM tops, I'll probably want to shift (Toploader) at 6000 to make sure it lives.
This is to be in a yet undefined street-strip car. Maverick or maybe a '66-69 Falcon.
Something of that nature would be light enough to not hurt too many parts and should still run in the 10's.

FE Technical Forum / Hypothetical intake question?
« on: July 20, 2011, 11:58:13 PM »
I just picked up my 427 (4.25") stroker kit. I've got the JE 242930 pistons which are just a shade over 10-1 compression.
My thought is a max ported P.I. intake with an old school Holley 3255 carb of 850 CFM with Lemans bowls. I want it to look period for a late '60's Mustang. How would this fare with a big solid cam, 292S or maybe a bit bigger?
I'm thinking of sending my intake to Joe Craine for a full porting job (providing he will do it for me).
I like this intake because, A) I have one.  B) It will work with factory shaker setups because of the factory location and  C) It looks stock with the factory p/n on it.
I will probably have my RPM heads lightly rubbed on a bit too.

Not sure if Werby is on here but a HP/TQ prediction would be cool!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: Air France crash

The company I work for has no sim training for upset recovery although I understand that that is being considered.
I really don't know how it can't NOT be done actually. Colgan air and Air France were two that should have been recoverable. There was also the US air crash in 1994 with a full-over rudder jam that was subsequently trained for in the B737 fleets of the world.
easy to say from here though. I wasn't there and I'm not a pilot. I just fix 'em!

Wow! I didn't see this thread until now. FWIW, Air France from a maintenance P.O.V. is top-notch. Flight-ops, not so much. I dealt with them on a daily basis in Mirabel (Montreal) a few years ago. The flight crews were arrogant beyond words, I'm okay with that but it was readily apparent that any sense of CRM
(Cockpit Resource Management) was not a priority, at all. At that time I saw operations on B747-200, B747-300, B747-400, B747F, B767-300 and the occasional A310-300. They had 28 flight/week at that time, I saw them a lot. The captain's word was god, period.
My day-to-day role these days is an AME (Aircraft Maintenance Engineer) with the occasional stint as a heavy maintenance tech rep on B737NG's.

This is a great thread on a Canadian bullboard about this crash. I've been on here for years.

Barry Byer, long time FE and FE forum guy. I've been working on my '53 F-100 for better than a decade now. Started off with no kids, now have two etc. etc. Presently 390 with "cough" C-6 but this is so it can be sold and I can get something that both kids can sit in.
Career-wise I am an aircraft maintenance engineer (Think A&P with Inspection Authority) working for the Canadian version of JetBlue, WestJet. 46 years old and still playing with toys!!

It was a good day indeed. So much for hiding in caves, he was living in a luxury all-inclusive. ???
I thought it was the wests decadence that he hated so??

The sticky's (sp?) do indeed work well. The first one could be, "What does FE stand for?"

Cool, I'll always be the first to post in the private classifieds!
Anyway, I'm looking for a used ratchet shifter, cable and arm for my new trans in the '53 F-100.
Cheap is good, I'm getting 'er ready to sell.
