Before reading about the Watts linkage coming loose in Jay's day 2 update I would have said that the car needs to be scaled to check the corner weights. That's critical with any drag car particularly the 4 link cars. The Watts linkage moving will certainly change suspension movement and cause that kind of launch though.

Curious to see how it does today with the suspension tightened up. Go Jay Go!! I'm living vicariously through you!!

2X on the material flaw with that rod. At these power levels X-raying them is the way to go no matter who's rod they are. We broke an Oliver rod at the beam on a 331 SBF making 1500 hp. The crank and all the other major parts were saved but the piston was turned sideways in the bore so the block was junked. It did end up being a flaw with the rod after closer examination. I'm really bummed about the breakdown Jay, very sorry. Like they said about the 6 Million Dollar Man (1 Billion in todays $$$) Steve Austin...."we can build him better, stronger, faster"....

The pulley set up is finished. The engine will have a remote mount electric water pump due to the belt arrangement but there really wasn't much of an option...

Thanks for all the input guys. Great info on the FE deck taper too I appreciate that Blair. Seems like I'll have no problem decking .032 if needed. I'll definately check the head and intake fit no matter what. I have a set of Edelbrocks and a Dove spider 4V so who knows how that stuff will fit together anyway.

Thanks for referring Ray to me Brent, this is the second set of cast iron heads he's repaired for me. I couldn't believe the quick turn around on them. Nothing major from what he told me. They are just an old set of C3AE-H's nothing too special.

I'm thinking of a factory block Brent. I'm sorting through stroke combinations and one will leave the pistons .032 in the hole. I've gone as far as .017 to zero deck a block just never as far as .032.

Just kind of curious as to how far an FE can be safely decked before running into strength issues.

That's why I figured I'd sell it John. I think the price is fair enough that some could do the machine work and have a very nice crank in the end. If not then back under my work bench it goes...lol

I don't have any maps for the blowers but they are box stock Paxton Novi's. Kind figured that the boost wouldn't be additive. I had a big concern about the slippage of the 10 rib and suggested a cog drive but it was determined that even with slip, enough boost could be made to get to the 1000 hp mark. I'm still skeptical that it will work but we'll see.

Thanks for the input on this Jay and I'll keep throwing in some updates as the engine progresses.

I'm not 100% where the boost levels are going to end up. A lot depends upon how well the current pulley set up works. The goal is 1000 hp which I think is attainable with boost in the 15 lbs range per blower but if these pulleys can deliver that I really don't know.

I used to chassis tune an old Pro 5.0 Mustang that had a 331 with a single 94MM turbo which we spun up to just shy of 30 lbs of boost and that thing made well over 1500 HP. That was almost 15 years ago...boy does time fly!!

I'm assuming that even though each blower will be in the 12 to 15 lbs of boost range that won't combine to make 30 lbs but rather just raise the boost to the 20 to 25 lb range or am I wrong?

What are your thoughts Jay?

Here's some pictures of a project that I'm working on. Its a 69 Mustang Fastback Restomod that will be powered by twin Novi superchargers, alum Pond block, Edelbrock heads, X-66 intake. Exact cubes have yet to be determined but it will probably be in the 480 range and expected horsepower over 1000. The owner picked the engine builder so its in his hands. The blower fab work is being handled by Precision Chassis in Pottstown Pa. Their work is top notch so I feel very comfortable handing this part of the job off to them. These are early fab work photos and I'll have some more to come once the car gets back to my shop.

Thanks for the idea but it won't work with the combination I'm building.

I had this crank checked out and turned for a 427 I was building but never used it because I couldn't find the rods. Its currently 20/20 with some minor pitting in a couple of journals. You could turn it further but I was going to run it as it was. It comes with a set of main bearings but no rod bearings. I would love to trade for a set of Scat 6.7 BBC rods or a steel 4.125 stroker crank or both with some cash thrown in from my end. I would also sell it outright for $500 to help fund my engine build. Please email me at dwalters1450@verizon.net   Thanks for the great website Jay!!

That's definately part of the plan along with a modest amount of porting. The HP level isn't going to be through the roof so I feel just a good matching of all the components should get me where I need to be.
