Joe everything you said is true, however a MR head will outflow a big port bbc head up to about .300 lift and stock eliminator camshafts are limited to stock .500/.525 lift, so at these levels the MR head actually could have a slight advantage......Jim Kramer 

I had this exact problem, pushrod oiling holes and such. In my case I was using Isky iron rockers. It wasn't so much the oiling hole itself but the pushrod cup was slightly too big to match ball of the adjuster. The contact area between the two was too small made worse by the oiling hole being there. It wore the ball end exactly as you described. I changed to a spair set of pushrods I had that fit better, no problems in about 5000 miles.....Jim Kramer

I'll put in another vote for trying therapy. I crashed on my bicycle several years ago and hurt my back. With rest it got a little better for a while then got much worst. I finally asked my doctor what he would suggest and he said try therapy first and I did. I got a good therapist and we tried several things until we hit on the couple exercises that really targeted the problem. It took some work and time on my part but we finally got good results. I will have to work at it for the rest of my life but that pain at least is in remission.....Jim

For the last 390 I built I was looking for a cam I liked and found something about right, but it was a hydraulic grind. I asked my machinist, ( who I was buying the cam through ) to call and ask if we could get that grind or something close on a solid lifter cam. The tech. guy, ( at Bullet I think ), said just buy the hydro cam and put solid lifters on it, and run the lash down to .003/.004, no problem. Thats what I did. I have about three thousand miles on it, no problem. I can't remember the grind number but it was a fairly mild cam.......Jim Kramer
