Short block is done, got the timing set on and degreed in this weekend. I think next weekend I'll get some more parts bolted on it, see how far I can get.

It's a 445", pretty common to what everyone is doing now. Hydraulic roller cam. Nothing too trick about it, just a solid engine to drop in the Galaxie.

I know Browell will make you dang near anything you're looking for. Has to be closely coordinated and really have to know dimensions.

I personally have a goal of making a FE to TH400 adapter. There's so many more options there and less expensive. If I were to pick off a bellhousing project, I'd lean towards making a TH400 rather than a C4.

The one we have on our race car came through QuickTime. They hadn't produced a batch in a while, but I'm sure if they saw a demand stacking up they would go ahead and make another batch. I would try and call Joel's on Joy transmission and see what he knows about that. I would venture to guess that he's the top buyer of those bellhousings.

Our Mustang and Cougar both have this style of cross brace on them. I looked and they don't seem to sell it for Fairlanes and Comets.
https://totalcontrolproducts.com/p-1612-mustang-64-70-cougar-67-70-hardtop-g-connector-center-support-standard-torque-arm.html

We have experience with this style of X brace and can vouch for this type of subframe connector being beneficial. The cars are much more solid with it installed. The middle X un-bolts. I have driven the Mustang without the middle X in it and the passenger door window will pop out of the seal if you make a hard pull with the car.

I haven't jumped into my '66 Fairlane project very far yet, but I have been kicking around ideas in my head. I saw an Australian company who makes these:
https://www.ssdperformance.com.au/products/display/23-chassis-connectors-for-hk-t-g-sedan%2C-ute%2C-wagon-and-monaro--

I was thinking about templating a set and seeing how they might work out. Our sheetmetal shop at work has a laser cutter and they could easily make these.

The only problem on a Fairlane or Comet is the back seat foot space that would interrupt the subframe connector. I need to see how I'd deal with that.

I don't have a single piece of wisdom here, BUT, my brother-in-law was a trainer for the Air Force and is now with United. He's offered to train me but I don't think I need anything else to spend money on!!

If you find yourself nervous and need some help I can line you guys up. He's a super good guy.

Private Classifieds / 65 Galaxie Trim
« on: October 16, 2025, 08:54:55 AM »
I've been going through stuff at the house trying to regain organization. This weekend I found some '65 Galaxie trim that could use a new home. All of it is in good condition, but not perfect. Here's what I have:

  • Driver and Passenger side rocker mouldings
  • Driver and Passenger rear rocker mouldings
  • Grille

If you're in need of this stuff get in touch with me and I can send pictures.

Mike, I wrote a reply on the previous page as well about the perches. You might miss it because it moved on to a new page.

I see you added the leaf spring rear slider from Calvert. Do you know the theory behind how they work? Is it a better set up than stock style hangers?
I’m pulling everything apart for repairs and was looking at the rear sliders.
Thanks, Mike Gray

From my understanding it frees up the leaf spring and lets it move in the direction its looking to go, whereas a normal hanger rotates in a circular motion. When I set those up I made it to where the track on the slider points directly at the front spring perch. So if you were to take a laser or a string and run it along the slider path, it would point you right at the front spring perch. That allows the leaf spring to bow downward and the back of the spring narrows along the set plane of the spring. With a shackle, once the back of the spring narrows enough, it will begin to lift up along the motion of the shackle (and work against rear end separation). Not sure if this is making sense as I type it, seems easier to explain by drawing a picture.

I found this picture. This helps show what I mean I think.

There are also companies that make dropper sliders which will assist in rear separation. I didn't see any need of doing something as radical as that.

I'm not sure if you can run sliders in stock class?? But if this helps....when I pulled apart our car to put these sliders on, I found that large sleeves had been cut into the frame. It had polyurethane bushings in it that had been greased like crazy. Took me a while to clean up! I'm assuming they did this to allow the shackle to move as freely as possible.

Mike, it's now sitting in the barn ready to head to the chassis dyno. Trying to coordinate a day between my friend Taylor and me to both have a day off that we can take it over there and work through it.

The spring perches are reinforced, yes. That was done when we got the car. We had the same experience on our black Mustang about 10 years ago. It squashed the spring perches and the whole rear end rotated. It put the yoke right up into the floor.

I'm not sure if they care in stock class which style perches you use, but I was going to use these on my Fairlane. They eliminate the u-bolt:

Not to completely derail this thread, but want to know what everyone thinks....

I read a deal today about a company having better luck with billit aluminum main caps than steel. I'm certain the aluminum would be easier to machine. Has anyone done this on an FE?? Looks like 7075 T6 is a typical alloy for this.

Next time I visit my relatives in the bay area I need to plan a day to do a car tour. I owe Joe at Denbeste a visit, I think they are within a reasonable driving distance.

Well, honestly I've been putting my free time into the drag car, so the Galaxie just sits there and stares at me while I work on the race car. I'm thinking within the next month or two I'll be able to shift my time back to the Galaxie. I have a personal goal of having it running before the end of the year. That's only a couple months away!!
