Not hard to fabricate your own .I did the ones on my 67 comet drag car just tie in the torque boxes .I used 1''x2'' tubing and some flat plate to go to the rear torque boxes .Crites sold a kit for this but they are gone.Doug

That mustang II was 7/8 bore the wilwood was their std. plastic aluminum master cylinder .I believe it is a Mopar unit actually .There was a noticeable brake improvement .BUT the pushrod that comes with the MC didnt work for me so I had to buy their pushrod kit also . And I plumbed in those little valves that send some pressure to the brakes ( cant remember the name now) along with a wilwood proportional valve .Rory contact me I have an extra mc it would be cheap just call 678 603 8400 .Doug

That Wilwood disc brake kit worked for me I have it on my 67 comet .At one time I had a mustang II master cylinder on it I replaced that with the Wilwood master cylinder .I had a better pedal and brakes with their master cyl.

On my 66 cyclone c-6 edelbrock heads I went with Hedmans a little banging trimmed my stabilizer bar mount they fit ok .My engine is a 63 two bolt 427 with different mounts so any header wouldnt be perfect but they fit alright .These are a two piece design the front two cylinders go on first then you slide the back two on .Doug

They are always several welders on sale on craigslist often though they dont have a power supply to check them out .I always felt these were guys just flipping a welder they knew nothing about .Where do you live Bob ??I am in Ga.

I have been welding for a long time .And I have come to find that buying a name brand used welder always works for me . Go to your local welding supply and see what they have and see if there is a welding machine repair shop local to you they might have what you need .BUT you need to wire your welder according to what the tag on the machine says .My tig welder (an older Hobart) requires a 100 amp circuit . These newer machines probably dont need that 100 amp circuit but look at the tag on the machine . Buying from either a welding supply or welder repair shop will pay off in the long run those guys will always help you if need be .Doug

Amen to isnt retirement fun!I am a retired welder and this year it just wont stop ! But the issue is nobody wants to pay my reasonable rates .I get tired of hearing my prices are to high when I know they arent .Next year I plan to cut back I just dont know how so maybe I can work on my stuff. Doug retired but not retired .

FE Technical Forum / Re: flat tappet cam
« on: August 20, 2024, 03:01:38 AM »
I dont post much on here but I have flat tappet cams in my comet drag car and my 66 cyclone .The 66 has a 63 427 center oiler engine .It is typical in that it has only splash oiling to the cam and lifters I have no issues with it I built that engine in 2007 I would just leave the cam alone in your comet on the street it would not matter. If you raced it the correct roller might be quicker though .Lots of expense and work to go roller .My drag car has gone 6.61 at 102 with a solid flat cam might be quicker with a roller but it is just fine to me .It has a 460 style engine not an FE.Doug

In two weeks we have a race it will be nice and hot ! The hoosiers are do6 compound micks are their stiff sidewall 3056st .For next race planning to use my new 90/10 front shocks calverts run 12 psi pull some timing out and lower my two step setting from2800 to 2400 .What has been so frustrating is this car has always been consistent until I installed the bigger engine .It really isnt that much of a bigger engine It runs about two tenths quicker than my old engine but that was enough to kill my traction .I have a really loose 9" convertor similar to my current 9" convertor .Thinking that should be my next move .Although I already had the new one loosened up .I have been looking online for ideas on moving my rear springs inward .Not much out there for ford or merc guys .Crites had a kit to move your springs in but I am probably to late for that since they closed the doors .Thanks for the ideas and thoughts Doug

It is tough being a comet guy you have to keep spare sheetmetal and trim .I believe doors interchange between the 66-67s but that is about it .I know of someone that ordered a rear quarter for his comet thinking it was the same as a fairlane quarter .They arent even close the vendor wouldnt take it back either .Doug
