If not, shoot them an email with that photo and they'll come up with something usually.

Its all what you negotiate.  Sometimes yes, sometimes no, depending on how the rebate is structured.  I was able to get an X-plan with 0 ARP given the special they were running.

Afret, no thats not right in your case as you're not a current or former Ford employee.  Once you have the PIN number, thats all you need.  No special ID or anything.  You just need to have your name match the PIN.  How does that happen? You will need to provide the following to the person holding the Xplan PIN: full name, address, and last four SSN# of the person buying/leasing the vehicle.

The person who gets the PIN number originally needs to show proof of who he or she is.  If they are a Ford retiree apparently its all online and easy.  They get a few Xplan PIN's per year they can give out to family and friends.  You can try getting the X-plan price, but it all depends on the time of the month, year, how long the car has been on the lot, options of the car, etc.

Going with the Xpin method, I was in the dealership, bought the Fusion and traded my old one in 46 minutes.  I timed it.  It was faster than a Ford oil/tire rotation service.

I loved the color.

Dual Paxtons would make it a nightmare to work on. And there's just NO way to use that much power in one of these cars.

But that color is my favorite on these cars! I saw an original many years ago that was this color. It was the most awesome looking Cobra I'd ever seen, but it didn't have any of the add-ons that this one has. I'd ditch the stripe, get rid of the chrome on the jack plates, get rid of the ugly black paint on those rims and paint them a stock looking magnesium color, and probably even ditch the side window wings. Anything that's added just detracts from the natural beauty of the design, IMO. Of course I'd have to have a 427 in it.

Agree with your style, black sidepipes, that gold tone magnesium look, no wing windows...keep it clean as possible.

Does anybody know the color code or name to that shade of red?

Rod C has them occasionally on the FordFE site.  Shoot an post out there and ask.

Basically, its fixed non-negotiable dollar amount over invoice.  No negotiations, take it or leave it.  You walk in with the X-plan PIN and voila, the dealer tells you the price.  BTW they have to you the price on the computer.

It doesn't apply to specialty vehicles, like the high end Mustangs.  But if you want a fully optioned or specialty build Fusion Sport like I did a few years ago, dealers wont move on price, so the X-plan gets you the best deal.

Some people also say they can negotiate a better price than an x-plan, which always makes me chuckle.  When was anyone 100% honest in saying what they actually bought a new car for, lol.

I watched that '78 pinto wagon go across the block a month ago for $33k plus 10% fees so anything seems possible in the wagon world!  At least I can say I got to sit in it!

Yup, totally, which is why steel inserts are installed.  They're also designed to have thicker walls to operate in the near annealed condition whereas the rest of the head isnt.  In reality the head is probably fine, unless it warped.

Totally agree with ya Fred, assuming you started with an annealed head.  But if it was already at a temper, and then went to 370-400F, that 24 hour process can be done in an hour, or less.  Those curves show how the hardness dissipates after you reach proper temper.

Whats the likelihood it got that hot everywhere on the head, its hard to say.

The aging temperature for A356 family of aluminum is ~320F or there abouts.  Most aluminum heads are cast from this alloy or something within the family.  So getting that temperature, or hotter, will begin to overage the metal, which in affect will lower its strength, both yield and ultimate, and reduce its hardness.  Also, the preload from the bolts can locally yield the material as the material is weakened, and as a result, you now can loose some or most of your fastener preload and head gasket compression.

Here's some data on the subject showing if you age too long this alloy will soften (granted its for a wheel, but it gives you an idea).

You can always have it re-done if it gets messed up.  I know on gold anodize acetone and IPA applied to a rag and then wiped on it didn't seem to affect it.

I could see them being concerned in having chlorinated solvents (MEK) and titanium alloys in contact, but spring steels should be impervious.  I need to go do some reading now.

Jay,
Did Robert talk about the Mercury 202 with the 427?  Was that originally the Zach Reynolds of Reynolds Tobacco car with ~2,000 miles on it?  Just curious if that's "that" car, and where it ended up.
