Spotted this tonight on ebay. Seems reasonable. I've got one coming, we'll see......
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Roush-FORD-FE-Cast-Aluminum-Timing-Cover-FREE-Shipping-/301842567429?hash=item4647381105:g:R9IAAOSw5dNWjt04&vxp=mtr
-
Does that mean Roush is getting out of the FE business? No more availability of a Roush crate 427?
-
Probably heading in that direction ..
-
Man, that is cheap! My timing cover castings cost more than that, and that Roush cover is a fully machined part. Nothing like a little volume from the foundry to bring down the price...
-
yeah i agree , i snagged one for that price and even free shipping
-
I feel kind of stupid asking because I'm not sure: Are all FE timing pointers interchangeable as far as the bolt pattern to the timing cover?
I recall SCJs got unique pointers but have no idea how they varied vs common pointers?
Do find it surprising Roush does not have a pointer listed because it's such a natural and simply a nice convenience for potential buyers. Maybe I just missed it?
LOL there were (5) noted as selling in the last hour (make that six with mine). Roush should say thank you to FE POWER.NET
-
I will compare it to the factory one when it comes in and let you know what i see
-
Amusing Roush SOLD Qty (1) a few weeks back for $79.95 and must have listed Qty (15) BIN @ $69.95
-

No, there are different styles and different patterns for bolting them on. Don't ask me which got which, because I never really cared which one was correct for which car/engine.
Is there something special about this cover? The Ebay add won't even show the original listing since all you jokers bought them out...lol
It looks to me to be a regular timing cover with nothing special about it. Why not just use a Ford piece then, which can be bought for much cheaper?

There is nothing special that I can tell. The way I look at it, some people are asking for quite a bit more for a factory cover, especially if it is NOS. So why buy a possibly beat up old cover or good used one for so much, if you don't need #'s matching? It seems reasonable to me for a nice looking new part. Not trying to argue, just voicing my mute opinion.
In case the original listing link won't work, here's the pics:

-
Nothing special , but for me it s a new part , and i only had the one factory one and no extra parts for a second build
-
Nice looking "piece". Be interesting to find out if it's MADE IN USA,,,,,,,
-

Hey, that's good enough argument for me! It's also something that I'm guilty of nearly 100% of the time. ;D It certainly is a nice looking piece, and I like how every bolt hole is closed. That certainly helps for leaks.
-

Not sure, I know I saw pictures of one on display at the Grand National Roadster Show this week.
But with something like that from Roush I'm sure they don't do small batch like your stuff Jay, so they probably have plenty to sell off.
-
That has to be an inventory cleanout deal.
I purchased three of them.
-
Between this cover and Jay's cover we now have some great options. I'd love to see someone make an adjustable timing pointer that has the same high quality. Maybe something like this....
-
Good for you Barry on snatching up three,,,, After reading Jay's remark about the cost being low and fully machined. I looked at the auction with LOL only One (1) left ,,,,and the Buy It Now... I suddenly got the feeling there were decent odds on scoring a truly "cool" FE part... as as Porkey Pig says:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBzJGckMYO4
-
The only advantage I can see is it seems to use a seal that fits from the front like later smallblocks. Also appears sand cast and maybe a bit stronger than the diecast if you were going to mount a motorplate or blower brackets to it.

Hard to tell in the picture but is that fuel pump bolt closest to the block too close to allow a fuel pump and bolt to fit?
-
I wondered that myself. It doesn't even look like there's enough room for the pump mounting boss unless it was ground down to the hole.
-
LOL maybe "THAT'S" why Roush discounted them....D'oh!
At least since Barry R bought (3) there will be an "engineered remedy sooner rather than later. Sure is strange to look at the photo because there looks to be relief at the edge... Hate to think the pump bolt holes are not indexed properly on the cover..............................
-
I'm certain that its the lighting and camera angle but it looks wrong....
-
Looks like an indentation there to me, so the ear on the pump would clear, once the pump is in place then the head of the bolt or stud nut would be out in the clear.
-

There is an indentation, but it looks like the hole is directly against the backside, which wouldn't leave enough room for the pump ear. I looked at Jay's cover and there is a gap between the hole and the machined flat. Maybe it's just the picture. I guess we'll find out.
-
I can see for the guys who have to have the "Name" or some other bling reason,
BUT that thing and the timing pointer in the pic has to weight twice as much if not more.
And if your making power the best way is to reduce weight.
This from the guy who had to buy some new jeans because his old ones shrunk in the drier. ::)

I bet you guys are pretty handy with a die grinder or angel grinder so I'm confident you all can handle it... ;)

Funny how those dam jeans shrink around this time every year.. :-\
-
Even My leatherjacket shrinked
And it wasnt washed :o :o

Try having a pastry chef for a wife , my jeans shrink from oct , to jan ...... lol

I will try to get some pics when the new cover(s) arrive. I can see in the pic, the notch is deep enough for the fuel pump mount. Looks deceiving in that light though.
Here is the timing cover I was planning on using for my next build. Nice piece, but there are a couple things I don't like.

That little piece of tin for the pointer will let you mockup your motor. Degree the cam for TDC and make a mark on it for 0 degrees and mark off the fore and aft degrees for timing. Or use timing tape on it. Bet it fits larger aftermarket balancers too.
-
I ordered one since I needed one. Figure for $70 I'll try it, and Rock Auto didn't seem to show a supplier for an OEM one(or I'm not looking in the right spot).
-
I see Roush put up another (final) batch of their covers on ebay. FYI
-
I thought it over for a while and got off my wallet for that $3.00 extra to have "The Cat In The Hat - Jack Roush" sign mine --pretty darn good deal?....

LOL in your dreams guys! ............... I don't have a clue about Jack's signing anything

Just received my Roush Timing Cover --- 100% optical illusion on the fuel-pump thread location - looks great and I stuck a FE mechanical fuel pump in it just to see all is well.
BTW: What makes the rainbow glare off the machined sections?
-
How's the thickness around the gasket area?

Good news! Thanks for letting us know.

Still waiting for mine to show up , but thanks for the feedback ..

Here are some pics! :D
So, maybe I bought two. ::)

How's the thickness around the gasket area?
Pan rail area is 5/16" and block mating surface is 3/8" thick. Very robust looking. I like it. :)
-
Thanks for the gasket rail measure Jared.
Hey one more thing. Are the front pan bolt holes there?
Haven't seen that view in any pics. I see the corner front bolt holes but don't see the front.
They're prolly there, just no bumps or anything to know. Which suggests the casting is pretty thick.
Unlike the Shelby deal.
-
.
-
Marc, if you look above, you can see the bumps on the inside. It must be pretty thick towards the outer side.
And that was an optical illusion. That machining mark makes it look like that pump bolt hole is on the edge. Well played, Jack. Well played :P
-
I thought that was the Shelby part that had the inside bumps. ???

Timing cover arrived. Nice part. Thanks for the heads up. It was one of the last parts I needed to finish a 445 short block.
