Thanks all! Ranch my 62 trans has a real small input shaft, But I need the 63 shaft as I had a t5 in it. The trans I just bought from a friend is a 63 390/406 trans the tag is 3a3-e-1.

FE Technical Forum / 4 speed question?
« on: April 03, 2016, 07:38:30 AM »
I'm looking at buying a t10 4 speed from a friend for my 62 but all the tags and casting numbers point to 65 427 only. Did some 65 Galaxies have t10 instead of top loader and would the 65 trans have the 62 bolt pattern? My 62 has 63 trans spline on the clutch disk would this match a 65 trans?
Thanks!

If it is over heating at slow speed or stopped and cools back down at higher speed check that hot air isn't circulating around the radiator under the hood ( rubber seals and air dams etc.).

Bad module.  My msd distributor came from factory with bad module and I lost a second one in less than two years on my Comet.

FE Technical Forum / More dumb questions 3x2 406 carb tune
« on: September 29, 2015, 08:37:01 AM »
My stock g code 406 runs extreemly rich black build up on exhaust tips huge black cloud if I stomp it. I have a flutter ( best I can discribe it ) at about 1500 rpm and the plugs get richer as you go to the back of the engine. It sound great at idle and from about 1800 rpm up. I swapped secondary carbs front to back with no change. There seems to be no place to check manifold vacume but I checked float level and it was ok.

Any ideas where I should check?

Thanks!

FE Technical Forum / Dumb clutch question
« on: September 15, 2015, 12:10:26 PM »
Will the 12" clutch from a 65 427 galaxie fit on the 11" flywheel in my 62 406 galaxie and work? I have a t5 in the car with the bigger 63 406 style input shaft and a 65 up scatter shield that is modified to use the original 62 starter.  I don't want to change starter style as I can reinstall the 4 speed and have the car back to original now if I want. Or is there a good 11" original 63 style replacement available that isn't Chinese made junk. The car is just a street car that will never be raced I was looking a the McCloud site and they only go back to 65.

Thanks.

800 seems high for a recore? I just had the radiator recored in my Galaxie with extra row of tubes $419 and my truck truck (64 f100) had new radiator with old brackets done last winter for less than $400. I like a copper radiators and never had trouble with cooling if everything was good even on overloaded work trucks with utility beds full of tools and parts.

I can't help but think that if they sold all that stuff to private collectors at auction they could build a V.A. Hospital with the money and operate it with the funds they are using to keep this facility open .
Would seem like a much better use of the money?
