4 speed question?
« on: April 03, 2016, 07:38:30 AM »
I'm looking at buying a t10 4 speed from a friend for my 62 but all the tags and casting numbers point to 65 427 only. Did some 65 Galaxies have t10 instead of top loader and would the 65 trans have the 62 bolt pattern? My 62 has 63 trans spline on the clutch disk would this match a 65 trans?
Thanks!

No, all Galaxies switched over to toploaders in mid 64 and there wasn't a Galaxie T-10 produced after that. Also, early T-10s didn't have tags on them, but a part number painted on with yellow paint.

That being said, a 65 427 would have a HEH-R toploader with 1 3/8" input and 31 splne output. It would not match the narrow bolt pattern of your 62, or the 1 1/8" input spline either.

What is the casting or tag numbers on this transmission?

The input bearing retainer flange is smaller on on the 62 T-10 so that means your Bell housing has a smaller hole but you might be able to swap out. Yes, you do have the narrow case bolt pattern, I have a metal tag on my 62 box (2A3-D-1.) IIRC.  The 62 "B" has the fine spline (1"-23) input.   My T-10 was off the back of a 406 405hp. thinking about getting rid of it but you are pretty far away, I'm in Delaware.

Thanks all! Ranch my 62 trans has a real small input shaft, But I need the 63 shaft as I had a t5 in it. The trans I just bought from a friend is a 63 390/406 trans the tag is 3a3-e-1.
