Dumb clutch question
« on: September 15, 2015, 12:10:26 PM »
Will the 12" clutch from a 65 427 galaxie fit on the 11" flywheel in my 62 406 galaxie and work? I have a t5 in the car with the bigger 63 406 style input shaft and a 65 up scatter shield that is modified to use the original 62 starter.  I don't want to change starter style as I can reinstall the 4 speed and have the car back to original now if I want. Or is there a good 11" original 63 style replacement available that isn't Chinese made junk. The car is just a street car that will never be raced I was looking a the McCloud site and they only go back to 65.

Thanks.

No, 12" will not fit 11" flywheel.

There are many 11" Long style clutch kits out there....I would use RAM or McLeod personally.

I bought the Ford Racing billet steel flywheel for mine along with the Ram street/strip dual friction clutch kit rated to 550hp. After I installed the new setup last fall, I pushed on the clutch pedal and felt a bad vibration. I tried to go around the block and it chattered worse than the factory hd unit I fried before. I took it back apart and found that all three fingers on the pressure plate were uneven. Called Summit Racing, sent it back, got a replacement, checked this one before final assy., put it back together and took it around the block this spring. Much better. I will hopefully get a few more miles on it in a week or two, and then drive it to the track to see how it runs.

a friend of mine that has 4 speeds in his fords uses McLeod,  and has good luck with them,  also if they don't have your part in the book just call them and they can make one for you.
